    Like, so many.
Yeah, I like the storage. I've got recovery gear, some tools, and a get home bag in there.

Are you ATF? Who in their right mind would post any answer or question like that on an open Internet website. It's about as dumb as posting up pictures of your weapons.
But knowing the law and playing by the rules does have its place in the public arenas wouldnt you say?

My point, somewhat jokingly, was that my state doesn't require it. Private party sales are just that, private.

This is why the registered owner would file a police report for the stolen weapon.

There are actually a lot of states that don't require you to register a weapon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state

FYI; California has the most rules/laws when it comes to gun ownership.

No POG here buddy, 3rd Battalion 2nd Mar Div Recon. Served in Desert Storm and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. This pic was a bit of a gag, but was taken in Mogadishu. Old school before they got all the fancy optics they have today.

Off topic but I had a Sig P220 stolen from me when I was in college at Pepperdine in Malibu back in 1999 (yea I'm an old man). Fast forward to 2018 I get a call from a Sheriff out of South Carolina letting me know that they had recovered it. Wanted to know if I wanted it back. Of course I did so I jumped through all the hoops and got it shipped through a gun store out there. It was recovered from a perp who used it in a bank robbery, and two years after the case went to court and closed, was finally released. I got it back all rusted to hell but can only imagine how many hands it was in and the stories behind it in those 19 years. One anecdotal story, but it pays to make the police report.

Not off topic at all. OP should know that he runs the risk of someone stealing it, even with the truck locked, even with it out of sight. We all should understand that building the most badass manliest looking trucks, with tons of outdoor/offroad gear, that our trucks get profiled in the work parking lot, and some no good thief looks at our vehicle first when they have their mind set on finding a gun that doesn't belong to them. They don't care that the trucks locked, the windows up, the gun hidden, never advertised being in there. They break the window, shuffle around, and are gone in 10 seconds or less. That being said, understand the risks of storing in your vehicle, and practice your God given rights all you want. Someone will call you irresponsible, but you're not the one breaking into cars and stealing guns. If you're owning legally, and go through the proper avenue to report stolen, you don't hold liability.

I wasn't sure if he was going off topic or trying to tag @Off Topic Guy in his statement, but didn't know how? I mean, he is a Marine (they're usually kind of slow).

What rifle and how often do you need to store it?

A backpack is all you need these days.

Going off topic, and yes I can appreciate the irony of 'Off Topic Guy' informing me that I'm not going off topic.

BTW if we are going to call out ‘slowness’ the key word in that sentence is “but’. As in Off Topic, but…. You really should have been able to deduce the intended meaning from that. Maybe you don’t do nuance well, who knows.

(if they're smart) I wouldn't imagine many people who found solutions will be sharing/advertising where they keep their guns in their trucks. Or they just don't keep them in their truck, extra emphasis here. But I don't judge either way.
