Order a Ford, pretty sure they don't require a deposit. By the time you get, they might have some of the recalls sorted out.

I would not do a $2000 non-refundable deposit, personally. For whatever it's worth, when I "ordered" mine they asked for a $500 deposit which was refundable for any reason. I gave them a credit card number which they never even charged so they were just making sure I was serious I suppose. Times were different back when I got mine though. Late 2016.

Why would any Toyota dealer need to charge a deposit on a Tacoma? People are willing to pay market adjustments to get one.

Just to hold one of the trucks allocated.

You can probably pre-pay the market adjustment, and if you refuse the allocation the dealer keeps the money.

The fact somebody or anybody is willing to buy the truck makes the deposit pointless. The dealer isn't accepting any risk to obtain an allocation that Toyota is already giving them.

Tru the taco sells itself but it holds it for the buyer and with the buyers agreement signed by the dealer you have your price incase anything changes during the 2-3 months your waiting for your truck to come in. I paid no markups for mine but hard to find a dealer willing to sell em for msrp with no markup

Sounds like a terrible way to buy a truck. I see Tacomas on some dealer lots, those probably come with a mark up.

No dealer here has any tacomas on the lot. All dealers here selling allotment trucks only if buying a truck with no markup and having to wait couple months for it to get here is terrible way to buy one its the only way here. Dealers have no cars or trucks on the lot to sell. Everything here is spoken for with deposits. All the new car dealerships have only used vehicles available for sale.

Whatever you do - GET IT IN WRITING! Problem solved. Personally I would never put down a deposit on a vehicle that is nonrefundable. CYA

Just because the dealer says it's nonrefundable doesn't mean it's nonrefundable. Check your state regs. Also don't deal with a dealer that tells you they have nonrefundable deposits.

I'd be really surprised if this is true.

If anyone gives $2k and didn't require them to put in writing (dealership letterhead, signed) that the deposit is 100% refundable for any reason, it's on them.

Being that there is a potential "Dealer Trade" that my be the reason your deposit is non-refundable?

Well Alot of ppl say I should look elsewhere. I did and was offered 7,000 less on my trade on a new 2022 by the same JP Toyota Dealership that I bought my 2018 from.

I have an appt. to discuss items further he has now said $1000.00 down. I will be asking for a Full Refund if they are unable to deliver the truck in the allocated time frame in writing. No idea if they can order the truck or "trade" with another dealer to acquire it. Sheesh Jim Pattison Toyota is a HUGE Dealership here in B.C. one would think they are on the up and up.

Thank_you all for your input. Times are definitely not Normal Anymore Eh.:)

FWIW - I've heard (through the grapevine) that some dealers have returned people's deposits so they could add a "market adjustment" and sell the alloted truck to someone else at the inflated price.

Moral of the story, never trust a car dealer & get everything in writing.

"Recalls" says it all in regards to my current opinion of Ford trucks. Hate to say it and see it. My best Ford truck was a 1965 Ford
F-100 with a straight 6 300CID engine. Short bed with a side mount spare. 17.5" rims. Twin I beam. I kick myself for ever selling that truck.

You would be better off selling your truck private party or you could/should get some quotes from online car buyers like Carmax, Carvana etc, they've been paying good money in the states.

    Good luck!
