Dave, thought you'd cut OEM harness and crimped & assembled the MX150 by now.:burp:

I did the high and low to female 090II. For now they are in a 4 way, same as my camera and license intercept, also a match to 4Runner LED headlights (though not sure on pinouts). I might go to a single 8 way connector to save on bulk down the road but I’m leaving the DRL connector as-is since it’s a male.

Double crimping on MX-150 isn’t possible and if I’m going to T that ruins the point of direct crimp. So for now it’s really all about ditching the crappy h9 male connectors for OEM quality.

No real functional difference though basically the same thing just one fewer connector per side and an easy path back to halogen.

    So you haven't sold any MX150 "T"'s at all?(DRL & TAIL)

I’ve sold a few. I just would not prefer that approach to a conversation harness. And I saw/see no urgent need to cut off good 090II terminals. The way I went I have 8 female between high, low, turn and sidemarker, then 3 male for DRL. At least they are all in the same family now. So I could convert to two connectors, one 8 way and the halogen DRL which feeds DRL and parking lights to other spots. With that approach my conversion harness would only need one double crimp on the DRL, another tiny bonus. But very non mainstream, lots of work, no actual benefit.

Finally installed the new LEDs! Thanks again @daveeasa for the new harnesses with dd backlight compatibility. Taco mods almost near completion lol.

I want to do this conversion. I have never been a big fan of electrical work, And I would hate to run into issues after installing $1500 lights. So the million dollar question has anyone encountered blown fuses or lights not turning on? Lastly I appreciate the very detailed information regarding the harness options. People like Dace is why this forum is awesome!

"has anyone encountered blown fuses or lights not turning on?"

    Yes, off memory:

    1. The TRS harness (maybe others) ties all grounds together such that installing either of the H9 male connectors with reverse polarity will blow that fuse by sending that circuit's power to ground. A fuse is cheap though and you have to figure out the polarity to use the headlights. No damage is done in this scenario other than the blown fuse.
    2. Yes, some headlight assemblies have documented issues. This is very very very rare. I've only ever tested one myself which was unable to go either full bright DRL C or dim Park C, I forget which. I built the guy a hacky harness for the other side to match behavior so that he didn't have a mismatch. I think he got the lights used. Usually this is a warranty situation.

The most common problem people encounter (other than confusion with the h9 male connector polarity and connection) is broken tabs from improper packing by dealership. That was a pretty common problem in earlier days but to some degree seems to have ramped down more recently.

I think one or two have reported they dropped their headlights, some have shredded my conversion harness by tossing leaf springs on top of it, etc. Basic/obvious "oops" types of things.

Electrically speaking the OEM LED headlight is an easier lift for the truck than the halogen headlights due to lower power consumption.

    @YE2KA

I've done the conversion and installed Dave's harness with no issues for over a year now.

Bought the OEM LED Headlights from Sparks Parts and did the install on Feb 12, 2022.

I and very pleased with the results which has not affected any electrics on my Sport.

If you can un-bolt and have patience with removing plastic, you should be OK.

Dave's Harness is clearly marked. You can test it too before putting it all back together.

    Love the new look.

Now, take my install time with grain of salt... I pretend to be a professional mechanic... the conversion took a little over an hour. Dave's harness was plug and play. No second guessing or pulling out the wiring schematics. No blown fuses.

I have done a lot of modifications to a lot of different vehicles in my time. I would pick this mod as one of my favourites, it really makes driving at night better, especially when weather is poor. And I have to admit, I love the look of the turn signal! I love arming and disarming the alarm so I get to see that.

That's great to know! I'm a fan of anything plug and play, but I do take electrical seriously.
