    I am looking at a single IDQ-8 D-2 sub for my truck. The specs say 125W RMS and 250W max RMS per coil. But it doesn't have a peak power rating. Do they mean that 250W per coil is the maximum? Should I be looking for an amp that only pushes 125 per coil to this thing?

    That just makes me not want that subwoofer even more. They list a “recommended RMS” and a “max RMS” and that’s just not how that works lol.

    lol, now i want to see their math!

    RMS= Root Mean Square
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_mean_square

    generally, it works out to about half the peak rating. but it's never been a range...

    even better, their t/s parameters indicates RMS is 500w... so RMS is somewhere between 125-500watts?

    i'd recommend looking elsewhere. image dynamics doesn't seem to give any reason they've chosen to take it upon themselves to rewrite an industry-wide ratings standard established early on in the 1900's, and also don't seem to care about certifying power ratings to CEA standards on any other equipment they market either, despite advertising a focus on sound quality, imaging, and musical dynamics...

    the marketing lingo is a B+. the execution is a D
