New Truck deposit Non-Refundable?

I think it depends on what state you are in. Here in CA any deposit is refundable.

 

Your description is why I hate the current traditional model of buying cars....Not the same experience of buying a Tesla. That explains why Tesla is rolling out so many vehicles currently. Who has time for that "old school" B.S.!

 

The deposit should be refundable, or you should go to another dealer.

I gave my dealer a $500 deposit, but he didn't even cash the check! He just gave me the check back upon delivery of the truck, and I paid the full price at that time.

 

First, you can't "order" a truck from Toyota. If the dealer is using that word, it means they don't even have the allotment truck you are trying to buy and they are fishing. Second, most dealers aren't trading any of their new stock because it is all sold before they get it as well. I would suggest finding a dealer that has an allotment for the truck you want and go with them. Many dealers are putting their allotments on their websites...simply call the dealer and see if the allotment has been spoken for. If not, give them a $500 deposit (that is refundable in writing) to put your name on the allotment. They should give you a preliminary VIN so you can get insurance all ready to go before hand as well.

Deposit should be refundable. at least mine was. I put $500 deposit on my truck when my dealership was working on the trade for it. I asked specifically about it and got a legit confused look from my sales guy since, to him, it was obvious that the deposit would come back to me if I decided to back out.

 

I ordered mine late October of 2021. I gave them my CC info for a $500 deposit but they never charged and just took the $500 off the MSRP. Picked up the truck in Denver, CO February 28th, 2022.

 

basically same for me. only difference was that I gave a check. took the deposit as part o my down payment.
