Anyone have a Bestop Supertop and a bed exender? Wondering if the bed extender is possible to flip in/out without taking the Supertop on/off. Looking to use the extender to easily load/carry my bikes but want the Supertop on most of the time.

I'd cover the top bar of the extender with foam and rest the downtube on it, then tie down with just enough torque to keep the bikes from bouncing.

I've got old Thule bars & bike trays from when I had a Subaru. Was thinking of mounting the Thule bars across the top of the bed with some L brackets and square U-bolts, but then I'd have to take the Supertop off for the whole summer. Not what I want to do.

    Alternative ideas appreciated.

    I'm confused.

You're wanting to tailgate carry your bikes on an extender instead of using a tailgate pad?

Not sure about the super top, but I used to flip an extender out on my previous truck's softopper all the time with no issue.

Alternatively, some people make bedrail mount brackets for those bike trays, so that the super top stays up and the bikes go outside. That's something to consider if your bike is like mine: my saddle is so tall that my bike won't fit under my softopper. I have to take mine down to carry regardless of fork mount or tailgate hang.

Yeah, the main complaint I read about tailgate pads is that they aren't compatible with caps, especially the Supertop, which has a bar across the top of the tailgate. It's removable, but you have to take the rear window off then too. So I'd be taking the tailgate pad on/off every time I wanted to bring the bikes anywhere, which I'm hoping is a lot from now on.
I don't think my bikes would be a problem with the height of a cap. I'm very short for a man, and I'm much "taller" than my wife & kids. :D

Those mounts are really cool! Now I have to look for them. Only having 2 bikes on the racks might be annoying sometimes, but I'll probably bring only my bike 90% of the time I throw bikes in. Thanks!

I would assume they would work together as the bed extender is angled in at each side and doesn’t extend past the end of the tailgate.

If the Bestop height is greater than or equal to the length of the tailgate, you will be OK. This should be an easy measurement to take.

As an aside, I have a surfboard tailgate pad I leave on my bed extender all the time. They look like this:

The reason is they incorporate a built in tie down strap which makes lashing down surfboards (or planks of wood, etc) really simple.

Does anyone know someone currently making outboard mounts like pictured above? I found someone on here who used to make them but doesn't anymore (and said no when I asked him to make just two more sets).

I threw a towel over the tailgate and loaded bikes with my softop on. Had to take off the back window and I could easily load 2 bikes, but if I have to carry 3+ I'd have to take the whole softop off to get three or more in. I'd prefer the outboard mounts although they're probably far more expensive than a tailgate pad and as far as my searches so far, are made of unobtainium.

Got a tailgate pad, remove the back window when carrying bikes and can easily get 2 bikes in with the Supertop on. Getting a third in is a bit of a pain but it's possible.
