My Dad 'remembers when' (he's 86, so 1940's) in grade school in the hills of W Kentucky, all the boys brought along a rifle. The classroom had a gun rack in the corner by the door. The boys were expected to hunt for rabbit, squirrels, and/or birds on their way home or there was no meat for supper. Fathers were working in the coal mines.

When I was a kid, my dad had a car like this. (I want to say Monte Carlo) Back when I felt special that I got to pump the gas, and no one cared a kid was doing it.

It's been a looong time since I've been to a gas station with the air hose you drove over when you pulled up. I didn't go to that many full service stations though. I remember being in NY and teaching a kid from NJ how to pump his own gas because self service isn't allowed there.

    Yes, they do.

Problem I had with it was, you were at the mercy of the pump jockey. In high traffic areas near state lines, you put up with it because gas in Jersey was, at the time, MUCH cheaper than in neighboring states. Once NJ upped their tax, anything you'd save at the pump was offset by tolls and time...

We have a full service gas station in our small town. Like to sit on the benches out front and enjoy a Mt Dew. They do all my oil changes and rotations. The old men like to hang out there and talk all day.

6,700 emergency room visits and 4 deaths. Last was a young girl which led to the cpsc banning all sales.

Reminds me, we (Air Force folk) commonly call the F-16 "Lawn Dart" ... single engine fighter, lose that engine and you're riding a Lawn Dart. I reckon those F-16 Jockeys pay particular attention to their chutes and ejection mechanisms. :cookiemonster:

Hell, a shotgun or 22 rifle rode in the back window gun rack of my F100 pick up every day of hunting season in High School parking lot from 1981 to 1983

I remember deer rifles in back window of trucks, windows down unlocked and no one messed with their stuff, circa 1987-92

I have a few 8" floppies... and some punch cards and FORTRAN coding sheets, too, which I found while cleaning out someone's stash in my old office... I kept those...

    I still have some ZIP 100’s & 250’s.
Maybe someday I’ll use them for target practice.

Anybody remember the Danish Go-Arounds? They were fantastic!

Euell Gibbons promoted that cereal on TV commercials!

Once upon a time there was a sacred but unwritten rule among parents.

It did not matter if you were rich or poor, black or white, what your religion, or if you were educated or not.

No matter who you were, you would NEVER cuss in front of children. What happened?

    Just some stuff...
And older kids wouldn't cuss in front of their parents. Now kids, no matter their age, cuss AT their parents!
