Hey guys…. Soo the other day while driving all of a sudden my dash cluster lit up with idiot lights. ABS light, PARK light, TRACTION CONTROL light and something else…. So I pulled over, shut her down. U plugged battery to reset. Plugged back in. Started her, lights still on, noticed ac wasn’t working, no power windows or door locks and speedo wasn’t working. drove it home. Brought to shop. Shop says blown fuse from abs control module sensor ??? . They put a new fuse in, but as soon as u touch the brake, the fuse pops again. They couldn’t get any readings. Once the electronic brake module was disconnected, everything started working except dash lights still on. They said it’s gotta go to dealer to replace the whole ABS control module and it runs like $1100 plus install and programming.
anybody else ever experience this ? Truck is a 2013 Tacoma sport. 94k miles.

I’d check for a short first.
No need in replacing the module until you “know” it’s the module.

Do you know what fuse it was exactly?

I think the first thing that needs to be done is to find out what caused the fuse to blow. You need to examine the wiring for shorts. If that is not done you're just throwing money at parts.

Sounds like a short in the stop light circuit, take it to a shop that is more apt at diagnoses.

Removing the ABS module and saying they isolated it, isn't enough. By disconnecting it, you've disconnected 80 wires. They need to be more specific.

I think when they said, “it’s gotta go to dealer to replace the whole ABS control module”.
That was their way of saying, we don’t know what’s wrong with it.

I don’t know why it’s so hard for shop/people to just admit when something is beyond their ability to fix.
There’s nothing wrong with admitting you don’t know, we all can’t know everything.

I’ll be the first to admit it. If I knew everything, I wouldn’t tear up as much stuff as I do.

I agree with the above posts, also do you have the hydraulic brake booster/ABS unit or the standard vacuum booster and standalone ABS unit?

I believe it was the abs fuse that blew. And u guys are right , prob have a better shop look into it before getting butt slashed at the dealer. As far as a short, I plan on looking into it today. Ohhh. Amd a couple weeks ago when driving 80mph thru the mountains, and I would go hit the brakes, it would shake all over the place. I just thought it was my rotors being wrapped but shop said that was the abs thing beginning to fail.

    Dm93 - I have no clue. I’m gonna say the standard vacuum booster. It’s a 2013 sport v6

A blown ABS fuse wouldn't cause your A/C, Windows, and locks to stop working, speedometer yes because it gets it's signal from the ABS Module but not the rest.

I had a chance to look at the wiring diagrams, for all the stuff you said to stop working and the symptoms described I would have to suspect the IG1 fuse was the one that blew and possibly the STOP LP CTRL Relay is shorted internally. It's the only explanation I have on why it would only blow when stepping on the brake and unplugging the ABS Module causes it to not blow.

Other suspects would be the ECU-B and IG1 No2 fuses, either way they feed many more things than just the ABS module.

Granted these are just educated guesses based on symptoms without knowing for sure which fuse was actually blown.
