One of our buildings at work has a bunch of hollow aluminum ladders to go up and down different sections of the roof. Every single one has wasps living in it and they're aggressive. I rarely go up since we just have a couple cameras up there that I'll occasionally clean off but I should bring some foil tape and close the open ends of those ladders so they can't get in this year.

If you don’t have wasp spray you could use hairspray too. Sticks there wings together and they can’t fly.

Alternatively you can also use wasp spray in your hair.

It doesn't work for shit and it smells god awful makes your eyes sting and probably isn't great for your lungs or nervous system but there's nothing stopping someone from trying.

Any roofers out there? Is it true you need to replace the underlay on a tile roof? Google says every 20-30 years. Thoughts on this?

Have a roofer come out and inspect the underlayment. It might be good still or it might need to get redone. What year is the build?

Yep! Going much more minimal and “modern” as the wife says. Just needed someone else to do the backbreaking removal stage haha

A little bit of foam sealant in every hole will fix that right up. A can could probably do 100 ladders.

Found a gate that works for the entrance to the yard off the carport. Glad I saved the original posts, sure beats building things outta wood with the current prices. Still need to order the 12' gate for the other side, thankfully I left those posts there too. Also grabbed the 4x4's and quickrete needed to start the last section of my fence.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
$4000 later, we have one. That was back in 2015. Could NEVER have done it without one. I hate it when I have to weed wack, but it gives her a play area, which is the only way even after 7 years, she can expend her energy.

Depends on previous owners who lived there before you. They might have that done or not..

Realtor should have told you that roof has been redone when you plan to buy a house... Something like "This house has been remodeled and new roof" something like that.

If not, then have roofer come by to check it out.

Is your heeler a little energizer bunny too? Mine is full speed 24/7. 3 walks a day isnt enough to tire her out, hoping having a fenced yard to run her around in will help.

$4k in 2015 would easily be $20k this year. Im diy-ing to save money. Heres the side I did last summer.
    IMG_20210918_153829762_HDR.jpg

I need to go back and staple some fence wire to the front side of it now since the pup can hop right through the boards.

Underlayment is likely overdue if it has never been replaced. Also, you'll likely need to replace some plywood underneath as well.

I had my tile roof redone in 2019; house was built in 1996. I Kept the tiles, but did new Fontana G40 underlayment, all new 6" metal flashing, new batten strips, new roof jack caps/vents, and added a roof mount solar attic fan. With the 115 plus degree AZ summers the original underlayment was crumbling like potato chips. I also learned a few things if I ever do another roof.

    1. You can do taller batten strips for better airflow ventilation under the tiles and make sure they're spaced accordingly when installed so water can run off and doesn't pool on the underlayment.

    2. Peel and stick underlayment is worth looking into as it will "self heal" around nail holes.

    3. Make sure your roof jack caps have dampers.

    4. If you're planning on upgrading any exhaust fans in the bathroom or laundry it would be wise to upgrade the exhaust vent tubing and roof jack caps at the same time the roof is redone.

    5. Make a point to climb on the roof and inspect the plywood for any water damage and replace as necessary. Some roofers are cheap and will try and felt over bad plywood sections.

    6. Do the math for the appropriate intake and exhaust ventilation for your roof. Otherwise you'll end up hiring out for another roofer to install a roof mounted solar attic fan.

    7. Get 3-5 bids and make sure they're licensed and insured.

All in my roof was about 12.5k for a 2000sqft single story with very minimal roof pitch. The solar attic fan added another 1k installed. My home improvement projects always suck up my mod money for the Tacoma, but at least my roof is good for another 20 years.

Such a cute pup! I had a Queensland Heeler/Chow Chow/ Coyote mix pup as a kid. Now I've got an American Staffordshire Terrier. He's really half mooch and half couch potato though. :D
