Is there a comprehensive source for info on front armor and airbags? I know some armor is tested for them, and some (most) are not.

Basically, is there any way of knowing if certain armor will interfere with the safety of the vehicle?

    TIA

I would not worry about it.

If you ever wander thru a late model repairable junk yard, your mind will be blown!

There are cars and trucks that are just destroyed, yet the bags didn't deploy. Just the opposite applies as well. There are cars with very little damage, but all bags are blown.

Several law enforcement members told me:

Seat belts save lives, air bags reduce injuries.

Wear your belt and hope the computer does what it's supposed to during a crash.

I was in an accident a long time ago in a 99 4runner, hit a barrier going 80kph (50mph?) It had a bush bumper.

The airbags did not deploy, the bumper was mangled.

Both us front occupants were bruised badly from the seat belts. But I never came close to hitting the steering wheel.

The bumper definitely prevented the sensor from going off, it wasn't even close to being touched.

Big thing is seat belts, otherwise you'll just have to trust the structure of the truck and bumper.

There's also the "Armor after impact" thread if you want to search for it.

A lot of those the bags are deployed.

ARB front bumper is the only bumper I am aware of that maintain's crash safety rating when properly installed.

Ultimately carrying the rating is a large cost smaller companies can't afford the testing to get or simply choose not to.

FWIW the ARB bumper is also the only DOT/NHTSA legal bumper because it has gone through collision validation.
