Shaun, sorry to keep asking about the shield for the rear CC on a 2.7L 2013 Tacoma, but just wondering if there's progress on this item?

    thanks,

Ordered one today for my 2022 taco tor decided against security hardware due to concern for salt here in IL. It does a number on the undercarriage. If one wants to spend time under a truck undoing bolts just to get to a cat, more power to them.

    I thought the same.

also they are two different size bolts / nuts for front and rear so extra hassle. At least for my tundra. Not sure of the Tacoma hardware

Dealing with rusted security head when you need to change tranny fluid or even stripping it, not worth the hassle to me. They will see the plate and most likely will move on to another easier target.

I wanted to get a cat shield for peace of mind, especially since I park in a parking garage every day for work. This design was my favorite of the ones I saw and the 1/4" thickness was a pretty big deciding factor. I also really liked the design of the front skid and figured might as well just get it all! There was a little mix up with the first shipment, but @Talon2006 got everything sorted out super fast!

Install was relatively quick and easy for everything, even though I had already installed the cat shield prior to the front skid. It would have been even easier to do it the other way around... I was just too excited to wait. :D

Thanks for an awesome product and customer service, @Talon2006!

    Comparison to stock "skid" thickness:rofl::

Side note: It even made the cat happy with the included cat toys (packing paper)!

Maybe overkill but I bought stainless steel bolts and gave them a liberal coat of Never Seize before installing them. Aluminum and steel don’t always play well together resulting in corrosion.

I have a 2nd Gen Tacoma (non lifted) and I just pulled the trigger on a cat security plate. My question is: Do I need washers and has anybody spray painted their shields with high heat paint OR rhino lined it? Pros and cons if so. Thanks in advance!

Plate just arrived today, looks awesome. Got a question about bolts and torques 1) I have TRD plate so can I reuse TRD rear bolts or will they be too short 2) if i cant reuse and have to go with 40mm bolts provided should I torque stainless allen bolts to 12ft/lb as per install instruction or 21 ft/lb as per trd plate recommendations 3) has any one used loctite blue to install little winglets
    THanks

You'll have to use the Talon bolts where the 2 plates meet. The TRD Skid plate bolts are too short for that area. The rest of the bolts (4EA) for the TRD Skid will bolt up nicely. I did not use loctite on the winglets.

Thanks for the clarifications. Do you recall what torque settings you've used?

The TRD Skid plate came with the specs...did you buy non-OEM?

It is OEM and states 21 ft/lbs on the back bolts. Talons' instructions only recommend torqueing allan bolts to 12 ft/lbs thats almost twice the difference. Basically I don;t want to over-torque and shear the head.

The 4 Allan (Bolt A) are torqued to 18 ft-lb (25 N.m) according to the sheet that came with the OEM skid.

    And you're right, Bolt D is 21 ft-lb.

Do you have the spacers for the TALON?

Here's one side of area in question:

Yeap spacer came with talon's plate, actually 4 of them. I know 2 go on the front between the cat plate and the frame. I am not sure where the other 2 go. I plan on installing it this weekend

You only need them for the two points where the Talon and the TRD Skid meet. It depends on which spacer will fit flush against the frame.

Take a look at this pic and see the difference each length makes. The wider spacer makes it bow a little while the other is more flush.

This was trial and error before the two spacers were sent to me.

I was using some washers with the big spacers initially sent with the TALON.
