Lately my touchscreen has been acting up. Randomly the presets will just light up and beep like I'm reprograming them. Usually if I press on it it'll go away but it's been doing it more and more lately. Anyone have any idea if I need to replace the whole unit or if there is an easy fix for it?

    TIA!

Most stock H/U last 6-7 years. You’ve done well on your ‘13. On to your problem.

The cold solder on the I/C chip is most likely cracked and causing intermittent problems. I would guess the heat sink is separating too. In other words, it’s on its way out.

There are some options for you though.

-You can try to get an new one from the dealer, but chip shortages have made this even pricier than usual.

-eBay, Facebook buy and sell, the B/S/T forum here, all could net you a used unit. Just remember the outcome will probably be the same as where you are now.

-New aftermarket. Use Crutchfield to gauge what features you’d like(nav, backup camera, wireless CarPlay or android auto, etc.) and shop around. Just remember the same chip shortage is in this market as well.

    Good luck.

Now that's a lot info and I appreciate it. I figured it was probably on it's way out and assumed I'd need a new head unit at some point. I was just hoping there was an easy in between fix until I can figure out what I want to get. Aftermarket is definitely the way to go though with all the added features that this one doesn't have, especially having the backup camera on the screen instead of the rearview. Thanks again!

I don't know if it's a defective screen or a bad head unit but you can replace the screen for about $20. I just did this on my daughter's Corolla a few months ago. She had some areas of the screen that were 'dead' and wouldn't respond to touch.
I bought hers on Amazon but they showed a replacement screen for my Tacoma as well.
Again, not sure if this will fix your problem but it's cheap to try.

Good to know that a replacement screen is inexpensive! Thanks! Problem is I don't have dead spots on the screen. I can make the presets work but something is making the screen think I'm doing a long press on a preset when I'm not.
