I am not sure when they hatch in the spring, but try to avoid the week or two when black flies hatch. I went on a backpacking trip in the Adirondacks years ago the week the black flies hatch and it ruined the trip. We cut it short because they were relentless.

BHM is a pretty good offroad park. About halfway to Binghamton.

I went for the first time in the winter, it was awesome! The park was great, and the owners are some of the nicest and enthusiastic people ever.

Is it worth bothering for a mostly stock SR5 DCLB? This is my first time hearing of it and it looks like a good time but I also don't wanna get in over my head and hurt my truck, I've mostly just ripped around on dirt roads so far so I have zero real off-road experience.

Eh, I wouldn't recommend it for someone with no experience. I would at least go with a group of people who have gone. It's not overly difficult, but it can get a little technical in some spots.

Fair enough. Anywhere you'd recommend for a newbie? I know NY is kinda slim pickins for it, I've figured I won't even be dialing onto 4wd until winter without doing some traveling.

I know upper new york has a bunch of unmaintained dirt service roads. I love traveling those. I've also used people's personal property (with permission, of course) and then my own property.
Sorry I'm not the go-to expert on this :rofl:my build is more for camping, then hard-core offroading

    .
Get a skid and some bigger tires. I have a skid if you are anywhere near Plattsburgh. I took a hard hit somewhere in VT. Then I just painted it black with a 2-part epoxy.

I'm working on upgrades for sure, I've only had the truck for a few months and haven't decided on where I wanna start on upgrades without bankrupting myself. Skids and a Cat shield are high on the list but I'm looking into a winch bumper first
