I bought this Badlands 12,000 lb winch along with their "universal" mounting plate and fairlead bracket, not realizing the difficulty I would have adapting it to the front of my 2014 Tacoma. I have read enough to know that in 2016, things got way simpler for mounting winches on Tacomas. Too bad for me. Not sure what universe Badlands is from, but the mount is useless for my truck. The holes don't seem to match anywhere on the frame or bumper mounts. I'm not using it for vehicle recovery, and also not concerned about it being hidden or looking amazing, but would like to have something solid to skid small to medium sized logs without spending a fortune. Now for the questions:

Has anyone adapted one of these specific model winches to a 2014 Tacoma?
Is there somewhere I can get a mount specifically for a Badlands 12,000 lb winch and 2014 extra cab??
Will I need a new bumper?
What have I gotten myself into?

Turns out the stock bumper does not allow for a winch mount plate. So the least expensive bumper that I could find was $550 to attach this winch. I decided to go with a back end mount reciever hitch mount instead for several reasons:

    1. It is $76 vs $550. Will buy a deep cycle battery too and save my engine battery ($179).
    2. Since I am just skidding logs a couple times a month, I don't need a permanent mount.
    3. When not in use, I can store it under cover in the barn, saving on weather and road salt abuse.
    4. Installation is far easier.
    5. Compared to a permanent mount, I can very easily remove/reuse this on a new truck down the road.
