i have a base 2nd gen 2wd and seeking advice on r&r front shocks and springs. I keep seeing 4wd videos and don't want to get started and find out simple floor jack and stands won't suffice. I'm looking at the monroe set at $105 quite a bit cheaper than the local auto shop. I have a base 2wd auto 4 dr not a prerunner.

Are you trying to lift the truck? Whats the reasoning behind changing out your shocks?

On base 2wd does it require removing any suspension parts? Will floor jack and stands work r do lines need to be undone etc ?

    I’ve never done a 2WD.

The Service Manual says you need to remove the upper control arm.

But I would try disconnecting the lower Ball joint mount, then loosening the lower control arm bolts (if needed), and snaking it out from the bottom.

Use a floor jack under the LCA when removing the upper shock nuts.
Then SLOWLY let the pressure off the jack?
You can loosen the lower shock mount bolt, but DO NOT remove it until pressure is off the shock assembly.

Will this work? I don’t know.
But that’s probably what I’d try.

Are you saying your truck is a 5 lug, not a 6 lug?

If so, we have a 5 lug forum that may be helpful. I've not had to do mine, but I dont see anything complex about it.

And I'll give you 20 bonus points for correct use of the term coilover and shocks instead of 'struts'

    Easy? Possibly
    Dangerous? Probably

I’d need to look at, but you can sometimes use a floor jack under the lower control arm and CAREFULLY remove the spring.
