Does anyone here have experience changing out the engine mounts for the 2.7? my main concern is how to lift up the engine a little bit. I dont have an engine hoist so i'm probably going to try to lift it by the oil pan with a floor jack. any input would be appreciated.

They make a engine lifting/ holding bar that mounts / stands on top of the strut towers used mainly to remove / replace front wheel drive transmissions..but honestly a used engine lift off FB market place or Craigslist etc would be $75 to $150 and could be resold afterwards at very little cost / loss..its better being overly safe then causing an accident..even a co worker may have an engine lift to borrow for a few days etc..

good point, i'm not opposed to buying a used engine hoist. the only thing holding me back is i cant find the mounting points on the engine for the hoist to connect to online anywhere. im hesitant to connect it to a point where it will break because i didnt mount it properly. honestly its pretty intimidating because i've never lifted an engine but i really want to do it.

My understanding is the 2.7L is 300lbs to 350lbs depending on whom you ask..as I can't find soild information on actual weight most places puts the weight at 300lbs..that said your method may work without problems but I'd always play it safe and just use a engine lift to prevent damage or a safety risk to yourself..

I've seen new replacement engines that still had the lifting hooks bolted to the block that are apparently taken off once the engine is installed..the parts counter may know the part number or a rebuild company maybe able to help too..if I happen to find the part #s I will post it here..Best of luck..the front mounting point should be open/ without a bolt near the front corner of the block if that helps any..

Floor jack, large block of wood. Send it.

The pan can easily support the weight, especially because it only needs to go up a few inches.

It appears there is some talk about the lifting points here if you check the search feature..I've looked around elsewhere and it seems most people just use general/ genetic flat plates and bolts that fit in the open threads on the block on the corner areas in the front and back as its not a very heavy engine..could even use a strap around the engine like those sold for that purpose at Horrible freight for like $10..I think there about 6ft long and are rated for about 6k lbs etc..a few Youtube vids on 2.7L or 2TR-FE engine replacement/ rebuilding may answer a lot of your questions..

thanks for all the input guys. i think i may go with a floorjack/diy engine ratchet strap hoist combo haha. floorjack to lift it up and then an engine hoist contraption to help prop it up so the weight isnt 100% on the oil pan. if i cant get a strap around the engine safely then ill look for 1 or 2 empty bolt holes for a hook. i looked at this video for some reference even if its not the same engine, the mounts themselves look exactly the same...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_4DiywsSbk

that video also got me thinking i might as well do the transmission mount regardless if it is bad or not, we'll see..
