I am looking at purchasing a 4runner for my wife. I am looking at options and think we are going go with the the TRD Off Road Premium trim. I noticed that they offer KDSS suspension on these. Does anyone have experience with this suspension? I'm wondering if its worth the extra $1700. It looks cool on YouTube but honestly at most this will be used for car trips, camping which involves a little off roading and mostly just a grocery getter. I also read somewhere it can help in extreme windy situations which we do get frequently up in the mountains here in So Cal. If there's another thread on this topic I apologize, I usually only look at the Tacoma ones. Thanks for any feedback.

Definitely worth it. Having experienced 4Runners with and without KDSS (and having owned a few 4Runners without it and now a GX460 that has it), it's worth every penny. It improves on-road manners quite a bit, too. Less body roll, helps retain a better contact patch, etc. Everything it's beneficial for off-road also helps on-road.

OME 881 springs with 3/8 spacer. SCS SR8 16x8 Gunmetal 285/75/16 Yokohama G003 Nitros all 4 corners. Dakar rear leafs. Deckplate mod. Marlin Crawler 1200lb clutch. Redline hood struts. ECGS clam shell bearing. Philips LED headlights. Front Runner bed bars. Katskinz leather interior.
My only concern would be how is the KDSS system affected by a small lift, say new coilovers.

Entirely unaffected, from my experience. If the lift you choose is one suited for a KDSS-equipped rig, it won't harm or impact it in any way. In fact, having KDSS has proven beneficial off-road in my experience once a truck is lifted. (Take this with a grain of salt-- I'm only speaking from personal experience and what I've read online. But I've owned 3 4Runners without KDSS and now have a KDSS-equipped GX and it's better in every situation short of ultimate, at-the-limit flex.)
