Forgive me for my ignorance but what are people switching to for the high beam h9 bulbs for the tacomas?

The OEM provided H9 is the best performing bulb for your high beams so no need to upgrade

I have to say this, but thanks again @crashnburn80!

After months of debating, I finally upgraded my high beams to Sylvania/Osram 9011s. Specifically the ones from Korea. Though my quest to save a bit of money by buying from O'Reilly's instead of AutoZone lead me to three different 9011 bulbs. First were a pair of Eikos, which was my mistake since I didn't specify Sylvania. Next order, I received one Osram from Korea, and another from Germany. I finally bit the bullet and went to AutoZone. The nearby store had one Osram 9011 from Korea.

Little hard to see, but the new Tundra LED headlights use up-firing emitters into a reflector, which is the opposite of the Tacomas down firing emitter architecture. Haven’t tried them, but noticed it at the dealership today.

I hope you read the thread, and then realize what you have done. No they are not 80w. They are a massive downgrade from stock. They in no way replicate a halogen in the slightest. You've bought snake oil, and then are likely visually mislead by a short range flood light.

I'm trying out the Hikari Ultras now after running the Phillips H9's with conversion harness for the winter. Almost as good of down road vision but a much whiter color which I like but still getting used to. I feel like the H9's were probably too bright for oncoming traffic but never did get flashed.

At this point I've tried all of the recommended bulbs covered here & I think these combos are the winners. H9's for the winter to melt snow/ice & Hikari Ultras for the warmer months for the nicer white light that matches the DRLs & other white lights I have. Thanks again Crash

Another member sent me this video today. I've compared the Morimotos and OEM 4runner LED hybrid headlights in this thread, so there isn't anything too surprising there. Although based on what is in the video, it appears the 4runner OEM Bi-LED headlights do not perform as well for high beam as the 4runner LED low beam only lamps with the recommended HIR high beam upgrade which outperform the Morimoto high beams. I share this because is it is a great example of the horrible pattern of the AlphaRex headlights, where it is demonstrated with a lux meter that the peak beam intensity is down very low in the pattern (makes for foreground light, not distance light) which not a correct headlight pattern. Shown at about 14:30.

Fwiw, here are the hikari ultras before and after rotating the housing. Don't think you can just put them in and go

The emitters should always face 3 and 9 o’clock for proper orientation.

Does the halogen bulb lose intensity/power after let's say 30 minutes of use? Or are they always the same? Same question for the led projectors (not led bulbs).

Halogens lose some output over time, but no they're not going to have output loss over 30 minutes, assuming the power input is stable.

LED lamps will be highest output at turn on, then it comes down to how effective their design is at removing the heat from the chipset over time. An OEM lamp, like toyotas is going to have significant thermal mass and a solid thermal pathway from the chips to the heatsink/mass, much better than any sort of retrofit bulb could manage. In typical use they're probably quite stable in output after 30 minutes.

One of my Nighthawk Platinum bulbs blew in exactly 5 months. Luckily I ordered two sets.
Is it normal for the bulb cap to flake off?

Seems to be hit and miss. I've had various 9003/h4and 9006/9012 bulb caps flake, and some not.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed those yet, very strange/suspect that they are not listed on Philips USA or UK sites either. I might have to pick up a set and try them out. I did find the press release from Lumileds here: https://lumileds.com/new-platinum-s...s-provide-stylish-looks-enhanced-performance/

Also somewhat questionable naming compared to the performance leader.
