My 2005 2.7 4 cyl is burning oil more and more every day. I have driven 2700 miles on this oil change and have already added 4 quarts of oil. I change my oil at the 4500 mile mark. My truck has 271000 miles and is my daily driver. I buy the Supertech 5w-30 high mileage oil from Wal-Mart. Not gonna lie I don't even know what can be done for a motor that burns oil. What do you guys do for Toyotas like mine?

Well short of rebuilding the engine you can bump up the engine oil viscosity to say a 10w40 or even a 15w40 HD Diesel oil (won't hurt a thing). However, if you're burning this much oil your catalytic converters are going to suffer big time. At that amount your truck has got to be smoking.

And in before people saying the Supertech oil is junk and is causing the oil burning. Don't listen to them, it's good oil. However it sounds like your engine is worn...

Years ago, you rebuilt an engine.
Now, you look for a low mileage used engine and swap it.
    Rebuilding is expensive now.

have you checked for leaks that only happen when the engine is running? Where do you normally park it? Gravel? Cement? If you have to, place a piece of cardboard under the engine area as soon as you park at home.

700 miles a quart and cats, I doubt you'd notice much smoke. It could be as simple as a leak or bad valve seals or worn/stuck rings and lots of blow by.

Sounds like it's time for a top end refresh.

I feel like I've read this could be a bad PCV valve.

Get some UV dye that can be mixed with oil and see if it is leaking around your engine. Also Supertech oil is good oil. It is made by Warren Distributions which also makes some of Mobil 1 oil.

Do a compression and or leak down test. It will be indicative of the cylinder wear, and or ring wear. You could even use a bore-scope and look at the cross hatches.

IF those are good, it may simply (simply being a slight understatement) the valve stem seals.

Or do none of the above, except what others have said, and find the lowest mileage engine that you can. ;)

Typically its ring lands, if it was simple, you could just pop new pistons and rings in and call it a day, but its not.

100% easiest way to tell if its bad blow by:

Remove the oil fill cap while its running, there should be a slight amount of pressure. On a bad engine, you'll actually hear the combustion and see gas escape.

Look at it this way, if you are adding 4 quarts between oil changes you really could skip the oil change and just do the filters since you are essentially refreshing all of your oil already. I agree with the other posters, if you want to keep the truck just get a rebuilt motor or a used one from the boneyard. This one is done for in one or more ways.
