What are we hoping will change from the third and what are we hope will be the same?

I'm hoping they drop the current 3.5L V6. Not enough bottom end torque.
Although I don't expect it, I'm hoping for a diesel.
I hope they don't go with coil springs. I really prefer leafs as I can add a couple if I want.
I hope they don't go with rear disc brakes. Drum brakes are fine and are low maintenance.
Actually, I'm looking for the same truck I have except a bit more power and better fuel economy for towing.
I'm expecting a 2.4l turbo with better power and torque numbers but I don't expect it would be any better fuel economy than the 4L V6 when towing and that's what I want.
I hope it doesn't look like the 2022 tundra because the front end on that is just fuggly.
    What are your thoughts?

There are a few threads on this. The rumors say there will likely be a turbo 4 cylinder and a hybrid option. Definitely no diesel. Both of those options would have better mileage than the 4.0L V6.

Toyota is moving their vehicles to the same platform that the new Tundra is on. It probably won't look exactly the same, but that will be what it is based on.

So you’re hoping for a mini tundra? Is that what you’re saying?

I hope the tailgate says 'TOYOTA' instead of 'TACOMA' if they go that route again with regards to branding.

(I still want my roll down windows back :rain:)

4th Gen will be in 2025 and Toyota announced a full BEV option with most likely a gas hybrid standard powertrain , multi link rear suspension to replace the outdated leaf spring setup.

I'd love a hybrid version. Plus I hope they keep Lunar Rock as a color for a while, I think those look great.

Wait, you actually like the old shitty drum brakes? I would love a hybrid for that sweet tax credit alone.

No, I'm saying that's what it will be. I believe it is called the TNGAF platform. Rumors say the V6 is gone and the manual is likely gone, although I'm not entirely sure that last part will be true.

Actually could be a 4th gen in 2024. But this is the design of it as a BEV and the petrol version would probably look like this just not the blocked out grill.

I was just going to post the same thing.

Nothing official has been announced at all other than these photos when Toyota announced their EV lineups.

Yes, I’ve known about the new common platform for years. I’ve known about the new 2.4l because the shop next door to me is making the tooling for the engine. My post was about what you hope changes and what stays the same.
yes, they are making an EV version although I can’t imagine an EV truck of any brand is going to tow very far on a single charge and as far as I know there are very few places to charge and they take an hour or more to fully charge. That’s a hard no for me.

That's why I think a BEV would be an option powertrain not the only one.

I'd be down for an all-electric version as long as it has at least 200 miles of range and can tow 3000-4000 pounds.

In that case, my hope is that it won't look drastically different. Based on the photos Toyota released I believe I won't be disappointed. So many EVs lose their luster to people simply based on being too different right away. I can't imagine the ICE version will be too different from that. I hope they switch to aluminum, but I think that's more of a pipe dream than anything. I could take or leave rear drums since very little of your braking occurs back there and I've not had any issues with my drums on this truck or my last one.

The biggest change I honestly hope they make is to add bigger cupholders. Our 4Runner has removable inserts which allow me to fit a full size Gatorade or 32 oz Hydroflask in it. I cannot do that in my 3rd gen. I also hope there are fewer interior rattles, although that may have more to do with mine being a late 2016 model.

It would likely beat that. The Rivian has an 11,000lb tow capacity and has an available range of 314 miles. Although the R1T is slightly larger than the Tacoma and weights about as much as an F350, if not slightly more.

With NHTSA requiring vehicles to be 40 mpg by 2026 (cars and light trucks), I'm thinking the new Tacoma will have to be a hybrid at least. 4 cyl turbo with electric help.
Also, it's strongly rumored that the new Tacoma will be on Toyota's new TNGA platform, specifically the TNGA-F platform which shares the platform of the Land Cruiser and Tundra.
That's just what I've gathered and not necessarily what I'm hoping for.

What I hope for is for the new gen Tacoma to NOT drive like the 3rd Gen. I was so disappointed in the drivetrain when I owned one. Coming from owning the Toyota Pickup, 1st Gen, and 2nd Gen, driving the 3rd Gen was really out of place. I also hope for other unrealistic things which I won't get into.
