2022 White Access Cab Tacoma 3.5 2WD

Only cosmetic so far, removed front air dam, removed running boards, removed splash gauards, added soft tonneau cover, a few dress up items on the interior.

First post from a new member to the forum.

My 2022 Tacoma is a 3.5 2WD Access Cab.
What is the purpose of the screen on the cover of the air box between the actual filter and the air intake for the engine?
Has anyone removed this screen? Any difference in the performance of the truck?
