I need to fill my longbed over the height of the bedsides for a 6 hour trip. I don't have a cap, nor do I want one.
Anyone found a good way to to cinch a tarp down outside the bedrails and not damage the paint from the tarp rubbing in the wind?

    What are you packing?

I prefer to tuck my tarps inside the rails. Bungee the tarp to the inside, then ratchet straps over the top of the tarp.

If my goal is to waterproof, then pack my perishables in rubbermaid containers, strap them down, then tarp and strap over that. When I was a broke college student I might have been guilty of wrapping my luggage in hefty garbage sacks once or twice.

Tarping over the rails is asking for rub.

I'll try, but i'ts my daughter's housewares and some of it can't get wet. Of course, I'll use the cab as much as possible, but we'll have luggage also.

Believe it or not the tiedowns that came with your truck work great.
Sure does the Toyota cargo net. Throw a blue tarp over everything and use the cargo net which is adjustable and you're good to go.
