Crashnburn80's Supercharged Gladiator Mojave Build

The Gladiator’s partial replacement for weekend warrior duty. 03 TRD OR DC, 207k miles. 2 owners. Frame completely spotless of even surface rust. Checked out a few good 1st Gen DC trucks, some with far lower miles, and while this was the highest mileage one it was by far in the best condition in and out and ran flawless. Thanks @Kidwidataco for accompanying on the road trip and driving it the 3 hours back home.


The Tacoma will be joined this summer by the Tesla Model 3 on order, which will take over daily driver responsibilities.

The Gladiator is still in the shop on the long block swap.

Any details from the PO on how the wheels were painted? I’ve been wondering what to do with mine. PC or plastidip or other? They look nice and I dig the red logos, that’s how I did mine on the 3rd gen. Needs black lug nuts though.

 

I don’t have any details. Goes well with the black and red TRD sticker. Unsure if I will keep them, but I’ll definitely be swapping the MTs for ATs soon. I will be heading out over the mountains today while it is snowing on the passes, not ideal conditions for an MT. Generally speaking painting is better than powder coating aluminum wheel, as the baking process for powder coat can weaken an aluminum wheel.

After crossing the pass. The washer fluid reservoir leaks, will need to fix. Noticed right before leaving when refilling the reservoir, so applied extra rain-x to the windshield and made due. Dome light didn’t work, replaced the bulb and now works with switch but not the doors. Also has a mildly bad ball joint on the driver side. Otherwise ran like a champ.

Dang, I should have just driven my 2003 DCSB out and used it as partial payment on the 2nd gen. Nice find!

 

If I had been more aware at the time and if I were a closer friend, I would have advised against selling the 2015. Granted it was worth a good chunk but still. Always buy, never sell, that is the Toyota truck rule.

 

Ya I tried that..... didn't work. I believe the answer was "Dude supercharger and 37s" but the response was just a rod through the engine block lol

 

Blows my mind that 7-8 year old trucks are selling for what they MSRP’d at. The market should (maybe?) catch up one day when ICE gets phased out, but yeah. Not worth selling if you want to buy another truck.

I’m not sure yet what this is, but I’ll want one for the Tesla. While this appears to be a front license plate, it is not an actual plate.

Friend of mine runs one of a similar design in the bottom pax corner of his windshield. Bumper doesn't allow plate mounting, and he didn't want a real plate rattling around on the dash.

Works well for the purpose, but def not "legal" so may catch you some heat if you draw the wrong 5-0 on the side of the road.
