Just came across this chart on Reddit.

I will say, for having a larger market share than the Ranger, the Tacoma is pretty safe.
    Happy Friday. Drive safe :burnrubber:

    That chart is irrelevant twaddle.

A)Needs to be either vehicles that killed someone else, or vehicles that had an on-board fatality. "Involved"doesn't tell a story.

    B) the graphic is not population weight corrected. No shit the most common vehicles on the road are the most involved.

Agree. The comments are interesting, too. I like that someone threw out "over 50% of fatal car accidents are single car accidents."

In Hawaii, Tacomas outnumber all other vehicles 3-1 so it's a no-brainer that they're involved with the most accidents.

Does the graphic account for per sale of vehicle type? A lot of the vehicles in there are very popular

Next up in the field of twaddle, a map showing armed assults/killing by weapon brand and caliber.

Because guns and vehicles are both irresponsible. :anonymous:

At least if it was separated out like how I think things should be, then you can take away a useful nugget of information like "gee, my smart car has a 0.3% probability of being pancaked by a Freightliner Cascadia."

I enjoy seeing graphics depicting multivariate scenarios that ignore many of those variables and look at only 2 dimensions (fatalities by state and make). I would love to see a breakdown based on...
    • Year and Trim of the vehicle
    • Time of day the accident happened
    • Driver impairment components (drugs, sleep deprivation, distracted driving, etc.)
    • Did the vehicle cause the fatalities or was the vehicle on the receiving end of the damage? If someone's loved one driving a Silverado left this earth because a Freightliner's brakes gave out that isn't the fault of the Silverado driver is it?
    • Weather conditions (rain, fog, snow, etc)
    • Accident distribution by zip code
    • Type of road (4 lane super slab, 2 lane highway, city streets, country road, etc.)

If I tried to tell a story with this data my colleagues would have so many questions I'd need a court reporter to take notes in the meeting just to keep up.

Less overall distance of driving may also lead to less seatbelts being used..I'm just totally guessing but I'd be willing to say the vehicle trips are short and probably crowded with winding roads..also the overall type of people..aka lots of people on vacation unfamiliar and distracted with the roads..
