74,000 miles and the dealership told me last month during their multi-point inspection after they did the 3rd brake light repair that the front pads are down to 2mm. I can tell they aren't as good as they were new, but the rotors are fine. Debating whether or not to replace them as well. I'll probably do Toyota OEM parts.

The rear brakes, however, make an odd clanking noise when I first step on them. It's especially noticeable when I'm say, puling around a drive-thru since I'm right next to the building. Sometimes it clanks when I take my foot off the brake after backing into the garage. No detectable adverse performance issues. It's done it for awhile and I've ignored it, but it definitely started after a beach driving "incident," despite my best efforts to rinse everything off and no signs of r*st otherwise..

The range is all the way from my sister in law (2,500 miles) all the way to Father Time that engine brakes and wears out much more expensive components by using his manual trans (99 million miles)

85000 front pads, 95000 rear drums. I do a lot of towing (boat and a travel trailer). I think they would have lasted longer if not for the extra wear from towing.

had the same issue with the 2nd gen. I think it might be the e brake sticking or something, either way I think it’s semi normal and ok.

It took 11 years and 100,000 miles before I replace my front brakes. Rears should last twice as long.

When I traded in my 2007 2nd Gen in 2016, it had 124k on original pads with life remaining.

I am noticing some light shaking too. What rotors did you get and how happy are you with the new rotors?

not sure how relevant, but other than the latest trucks being heavier, probably not much difference between Gen-1 and Gen-3:

FWIW: My 1995.5 1st Gen, 4cyl, 2WD, stripped base model: Bought it new, traded it in after 15 years with 379,000 miles: Still had the original factory rear drums and shoes.

(I might have blown the dust out a few times, bled the brakes every 5 years or so and MAYBE once lubed the parking brake cable and drum hardware/backing plate)

My 07 prerunner with 32's went 110k. My current 18 Offroad with 33's is at 39k. I went yesterday for an oil change and they said they are at 60%

I don't remember exactly which rotors I went with, something mid level on rockauto. I'm at 132k now and the light shaking is just barely and I mean barely noticeable again when I light brake.

Pretty darn impressive some of the numbers I'm seeing in here. I have about a 1,000 extra pounds in weight from all my mods and interested to see where they are at when I inspect them at the 30k mark. I'm not expecting to get anywhere near these levels of life out of the pads. I'll probably replace them with the TRD pads when it comes time.

Did they change anything compared to the second gen breaks? I changed my front pads and rotors around 190,000km and they were still well within spec when I measured pad thickness, by a few mm if I remember correctly. Stayed with all oem replacements from Toyota. I'm at 230,000km now and my rear brakes amazingly still measure within spec, will be changing them out soon though.

47k replaced them, they had another 10-15k on them most likely. Rotors were good too, that part bugged me I should have kept those

I have a 2020 at just shy of 50k miles and I thought I had a lot of seat time. Damn!

60k on the fronts, rears are still cranking. I'm all highway and very rarely heavy, but I bought it used so no idea what the original owner did with it.

Good to know! I’ve got 36k on mine and I was thinking about how long they last.

Just did them at 47k. We're driving from MA to Tx and back over the next two weeks and they were close enough that i didn't want to chance it.
