For the life of me I could not find the adjustment for the SLU solenoid when I dropped the pan. Altogether the pan held about 4 quarts+, 3+ from the drain plug and another quart still in the nether regions of the tranny pan when I dropped it. I looked, poked, used brite lights, could not find the adjustment for the solenoid. So, I cleaned the magnets and the inside of the pan, replaced the gasket, buttoned everything up and added the 4+ quarts I measured from drainage, plus two packets of the anti stutter sauce mention here at the forums. Buttoned it up, got the tranny up to temp, undid the overflow, nothing came out. So I add another quart, let it completely warm up and still nothing from the overflow, WTF? So I add almost another full quart, got temps up, and this time ATF came out of the overflow, about maybe 1/3 of a quart. So the tranny was short about a quart and a half from the factory..

Anyway, stutter gone. If anyone can assist me on the screw located for the SLU solenoid I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks...

I can try to find a pic, but you have to remove the SLU solenoid by removing the bracket that holds it in place, then pulling the solenoid. the screw is on the side that faces in.

Seedy_tea, Thank you for the information, just what I was looking for. I searched the forums for two days, just couldn't find a direct reference, and finding it online was not successful. Thanks again...

I drove around the City (San Francisco) for 30 minutes, up and down hills, stop and go traffic, then back to the driveway for a fluid check. I am sure I reached a sufficient fluid temp with each 30 minute drive. Transmission has been a dream, I will eventually get around to the SLU solenoid adjustment, but, for now, I am just enjoying a properly working transmission. I am sure being low on ATF to begin with in my situation was a contributing factor, and probably was in many, if not most, who experienced 2nd gen stuttermania, Toyota shot their own foot on this one....dropping the pan and cleaning the magnets and inside of the pan for getting rid of accumulated metal/clutch debris is a big MUST....thanks for your help....

You really need to click the link he provided. There is a specific procedure for getting the fluid to the proper temp (not just warmed up) but the correct temp. You may have overfilled your transmission now.

Checking the ATF level after driving around makes it likely your ATF level is still low. ATF expands with heat. Thus, removing the oil level drain bolt when the ATF is too hot will drain more ATF than is necessary. Remove the bolt when the ATF is not hot enough and you end up with too much ATF if you add ATF until it drains.

You can use an IR gun to measure the temp at the trans pan. My Ultraguage provides the two ATF temp readings, and I found a variance of 2-3 degrees with my IR gun. Shoot for 121 degrees and you’ll be within OEM specs.
