The biggest thing is making sure the amp you want actually has true hi-level inputs. Lots of amps say they do, but they only accept up to like 10v.
You can do any loc though and be fine. The subwoofer is the easiest part of the system to work with

It's funny to me that in the electric guitar world neodymium magnets are all the rage, and all the best amps ever made use speakers with paper cones (and those amps were used to record almost every album you've ever heard). In that world it's never about getting the sexiest looking speaker, but rather pairing the amp with the right speaker. You ears hear the pressure waves, not the cone material! I'm not saying we should all buy paper cone speakers, since it seems the aftermarket car stereo industry has moved away from that, but I just think everyone is blaming bad audio on the wrong things.

Since I don't want a sub or ear-splitting volume, I'm gonna see what I can do with the equalizer before changing out my non-premium sound system. OP, if I had the JBL system, I'd be sure to try everything before just throwing more money at it. The number of times a bad guitar has become a good guitar with a few screw turns, rather than new parts, is innumerable. Put that EQ through its paces first!

Most (basically all) people don’t know or understand that the factory speakers are using neo magnets. They just see a little magnet and think “little magnet = little sound” because you see pictures of these massive subwoofers with massive magnets. But then when they stick a neo magnet to their fridge and can’t get it off, they finally understand that it’s not all about size

I'm glad you are one of the lucky ones that didn't pay extra to get a premium sound system and received what we did. The dealer turn the music up just loud enough before bass roll off to get me impressed with the sub and stated it had a lot more to go. I get to driving it a few weeks start understanding what's going on reading forums and such and feel like I got screwed over. I don't like loud music all the time but there's every now and then a good old song will come on I'll go to turn it up and I'm already maxed out and that sucks . If you were in that situation you might also be throwing stones at any little bit and piece of it as well. As far as guitar amps go those have to be carried by hand and if I were a player lugging a heavy amplifier around all the time I might would love to have a Neo magnet as well to lessen the load. But I have a truck to haul my speakers for me that I paid extra for that won't get crunk when I need them to so I could care less how much it weighs. I'm sure it's not going to affect gas mileage that bad. When I lightly bump paper cone with my knuckle and makes big dent bc in because it's so thin that's crap to me and wouldn't happen on modern aftermarket sub. As I said before it sounds good with the volume that it can reach but the factory JBL amp restrictions is what's killing it not necessarily the speaker

Very good points here! It's the bass players that benefit from neo magnets the most, and I'm to stubborn to give up my traditional heavy tube amps haha! Anyway, my post was a bit quick on the draw too, I figured it would have a better EQ than the entune 3-band, but alas I was wrong. Tweaking it made a bit of difference but not enough, it's not hard to put a global 6-band EQ in these things. Now begins my long journey of research and optimization without pulling the entire interior to wire up a decent stereo. Damnit!

I agree a paper coned sub that is exposed is not ideal, but behind a plastic grille it really shouldn't matter. If one expects them to be getting wet or abused, then marine speakers are the best choice. I guess I'm glad that basically everything in the premium package is stuff I don't want! Leather seats, no way not in this heat... the sunroof would prevent me from fitting in the truck in the first place... and I now understand the JBL audio is set up for sensible middle-aged accountants. I need to find a good audio shop in Denver and have them set up a system based on Houses of the Holy haha!

I have a ‘22 limited. Is there an aftermarket full apple play head unit that allows for the birds eye view and reverse camera views or is that never an issue?

i did a full gut. alpine ilxw650, xa90v, xs69c, xs65c, jl cp108lgw3v3. birds eye view seems intact. lost auto mode. also noticed that the toyota app cannot track my trips anymore. need to swap the back panel for a non-jbl panel if you want to keep the finished look. thinking about upgrading to ilx507 and jl SBTTACDCG3/10TW3.
