Under 2% of the cars on the road today are EV. That's why the prepping is being done now to the infrastructure.

I want the TRD Pro to actually have a better engine than the SR.

Nope and have no desire to be. SoCal is not a great example to represent the majority of the rest of the country.

A lot of “dreamers” on this thread that clearly have no experience (or comprehension) in electrical utility generation, transmission, and distribution.

    After owning a pre-gen, a 1st gen, a 2nd gen, a 3rd gen, then 2 more 2nd gens my wish list is a culmination of all 3 gens.
-bring back the bulletproof 4.0 that they continue using in 4runners and overseas FJ Cruisers (no slug 3.5's in those)
-trash the 3rd gen automatic transmission which adds to the sluggish performance
-trash the Atkinson cycle idea because it runs like pulling off 2 coil wires from a 4.0
-make a modified version of the 2nd gen automatic transmission with 1 or 2 more overdrive gears boosting mpg's
-adding 2 more o.d. gears still gives the option of real power when not worried about mpg's
-keep the access cab models and bring back the regular cab
-if they make an ev then don't produce it until every dealer has a tech to service it (read about Fords problem of no local techs)
-solve the ev battery issue where the heat in winter drains the battery killing the range (also reported in Fords)

Gonna be honest with ya, the gearing has nothing to do with the MPGs. the truck is an air brake. I get better MPG in 5th gear at 55 than I do at 68mph in 6th gear, and its the same RPM. It loses speed coasting downhill above 60mph. The air drag is also why these trucks feel so slow on the highway and part of the reason why they gear hunt. So all these 3rd gen issues : gear hunting, lack of power, bad MPG, are partly due to the fact that this truck is heavy and has a bad drag coefficient.

I like drums in the rear cause they rarely fail and calipers in the back alway lock up

What I can say is my 3rd gen 3.5 automatic got awesome mpg's. Avg 17.5-18 city and always got 24-25 highway. That was running 65 to 70 mph. So my thought is that they could have done more with the 4.0 and additional tranny gears to bring up the mpg's. I do think they could have brought that combo up into the 20+ highway mpg's. I never had the transmission hunting issues. What I hated most was running 35-40 mph in 6th gear. Then when you go to pass it only dropped to 5th and felt powerless. In city driving it should not be in 6th gear. There was the ect feature that helped but then every time you drive you have to push the ect button. I would have been happy with 16 mpg in town to have more power. 6th was fine on the interstate. That transmission was flashed at least 3 times. Between that and the constant mail for recalls and tsb's drove me to sell it after 5 years and only 25k miles.

The gen 3s gear hunt. The 2nd gen 4.0 has no issues with gear hunting. In fact it will not even hunt when going up modest hills.

Unfortunately thats 99.9% of the general public. They just have no idea how the system works. Like most things I suppose..

Ya its for sure a combo, but you're right, wind drag and speed play a much bigger role in MPG than gearing.
Kinetic energy AND drag are functions of velocity squared so both of those are exponentially trying to hurt your MPG.
That said, take two identical cars and put a 3 speed in on and a 10 speed in the other and you'll get better mileage in the 10 speed since you're more often in the optimal RPM range no matter how fast you go.

Well as I and most people have stated the current system of generation and delivery of power for EV's is currently not set up for 250+ million vehicles. The US currently has under 2 million registered EV's. So yes the system isn't setup for 250+ million cars currently and more generation will be needed for when the US is 100% Ev's in let's say 50+ years from now. I have faith things will be brought up to speed for that time. There's no other choice actually.

I am still hoping for a 6 cyl option. The in-line 6 cyl 3.0L co-developed with Mazda has potential to be a superior mid-size truck engine.

    I would love an in-line 6 also.
