Got the truck back from the dealer and the issue is NOT solved. They changed the rear differential, I drove it the next day and its STILL there.
Anyone have an idea of what it could be?
    TIA
    Bill

Start by putting a chalk mark on the tire at the top when it makes a sound. See if it makes the sound at the same place in the rotation. And a longer video may help. Does it continue to click as you drive faster? Does it click faster? Or stay the same speed no matter how fast you drive?

It does not continue to click. It clicks when you accelerate (put a load on it) and back off and I only hear it at lower speeds. It will also do it when i back down the driveway and hit the breaks hard and the truck rocks back to front. It wont do it with body roll and it is definitely in the rear of the truck.
    Thanks for the reply BTW.

Did you check the driveline? Random, but when I replaced the carrier bearing and your joints (check if that's all tightened up. The bolt that holds the intermediate shaft was missing, which helps keep the driveshaft together. Since it, a new truck may not be as pressed on Random idea, but you may only notice it front and back. I only saw the carrier bearing when I was on the gas; it seemed fine. It keeps the driveshaft from slapping around. But first, guess I would think diff since it makes popping sounds if it is hosed. But much more violent.

After you check the carrier, tap around on the leaf springs and hangers. See anything is loose there. It kinda sounds like leaf springs. Doing what I have no idea. I am sure that some one will have an idea though...

    Issue solved.
It turned out to be undercoating on the overload leaf spring pads! I never would have found it. Ron at Mac Haik Toyota in League City TX worked with me for about an hour troubleshooting. He kept the truck and when it was raised on the lift, found the Boss Wax undercoating was sticking to the overload pad, making a loud pop when separating upon decompression. Same scenario as when the axle was wrapping. Cleaned the undercoating from the leaf where it contacts the pad and the popping is gone.
FWIW, Mac Haik was NOT the dealership that replaced the rear end and it was well worth the hour drive to get it looked at by a competent tech.
    Thanks again Ron!!

Glad Ya got er fixed. I had a similar noise that turned out to be the parking brake where it attached to the leaf spring pack.

You are welcome! That’s why they keep me around the dealership I guess.
