I noticed since we bought our 2018 Trd sport Tacoma with 12k miles that when u push gas pedal it has a slight jerk like the older vehicles with bad u joints. My Ranger has hard plastic on the splines of drive shaft and uses blue teflon grease as a hydraulic effect in yoke to keep from bottoming out and causing same jerk feeling when grease gets old and loses its hydraulic properties. Does the Tacoma have this same setup. Just feels like slack somewhere. Runs smooth and fine after u get goin. I know these trucks r torquey and have plenty of power but just feels like there is slack somewhere. Runs fine other than that.

    Manual or automatic?

There are posts on TW that talk about taking the prop shaft out to lube the splines.

    Okay,

these thread are starting to pop up and I'm a little concerned.

I have a 2021 TRD Sport Auto. Right off the bat, I notice when I start my truck, the RPM range is about 1200.

I'm expecting idle RPM to be about 800 when she is warmed up.

I find that this engine idles at about 1K or just under that on the tach.

This doesn't affect MPG as I get at least 340 miles per tank full.

My mind wanders to my truck being a 4X4. Is it telling me I need to do my monthly 4H run? How bout my 4L run.

Because I have a dedicated street-style Sport, I have to remember to run my 4H at least once a month so it does not seize when I need it.

I'm thinking out loud but maybe the engine is either trying to tell us something or maybe the ECU needs to be looked at by dealership.

    Oh look, another mod....
I had a jerking issue last night while I was driving home from dinner last night, but the female sitting in my passenger seat was to blame for that. *wink wink*

Eurowner it is a automatic 2wd sport. I will look into the lube u need for splines. I drill and tapped the deepest part of my yoke on my Ranger so every 5k oil change I could pump a couple squirts of the Teflon grease in there which pushes the old out but after 9 years and 90k miles later I think it’s time to remove drive shaft and clean old grease out of rubber boot cause I have started noticing this winter at 50+ mph the truck would have a very slight vibration from the thick cold grease settling to one side of boot but after a 3-5 miles of driving it stops and doesn’t do it in summer time.

You better clean up that mess, bro!

Or at least, have some seat covers. *wink-wink*

Yep...That's what gets used by Toyota techs when they re-grease; Ford XG-8.
I believe @mello03 had similar complaints on his first 3rd generation. IIRC, his was 'fixed' by the dealer by drilling a relief hole.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
He said it was the seat cover that caused the mess...

This is the drive shaft out of my Ranger with blue rubber/plastic coated splines which I saw a video on YouTube for a 2012 Tacoma with exact same stuff on splines and recommends same blue Teflon grease on splines. This is also the 1/4-28 taped yoke for greasing yoke so I don’t have to take drive shaft off every 10k miles but found out should have taken off every 30k to clean out rubber boot cause after pumping in grease every 5k during oil change after 120k miles boot was causing drive shaft slight vibration and was full. So does my 2018 have rubber coated splines?

High likelihood since it's a Spicer shaft.
It's nylon; called Glidecote. It's machined after coating for a tight tolerance fit.
    That's a lot of grease...

Wonder if the previous owner had a tune that was too touchy from the start, and can make it feel like that. Especially because it has been there since you've had it and it's unlikely for something like that to be an issue with only 12k miles on it. Would also hate for you to be replacing expensive parts only to find that it was a custom tune.
