A lot of talk about Jet, Powermatic, and Rikon for table saws but I'm curious if anyone has had any experience with Harvey? Just based on the looks, it seems to be similar to either a Laguna or Saw Stop (minus the neat mechanism). I'm currently not on the market for a cabinet saw since I don't have the room in my garage shop mainly for the mobility aspect, but I'd like to weight my options for down the line.

I looked into Harvey a couple of years ago and ended up getting a Grizzly. Harvey had great deals at the time but...the quality didn't seem to be there. The people who were "ambassadors" loved them and everybody else did not. Quality may have changed since then, I do not know. If I could afford it, I would buy a Sawstop but for now, my Grizzly is more than capable.

Anyone in here had any experience taking down larger trees? Like 80' crown height and 30" diameter?

That sounds like a monster. Check in the Home Improvement thread if you don't get any hits here.

It's a very large black walnut that I am trying to sell so I can fix some things on my house. The guy that is interested in it wants to trade the work for the tree, but he said he would buy the logs from me if I take it down for him. It's on the very back of my property, so no worries about houses or wires. Well, maybe a derelict shed, but I want that thing gone anyway.

Get couple plastic wedges. Those help tons. Basically notch 1/3 towards the way you want it to go. Cut from opposite side maybe 1-2 inches above the first horizontal cut. About 1/3 on that cut you should be able to get wedges in to start putting pressure ontowards notch. Keep cutting till it starts to go over then gtfo of the way.

If its leaning towards one way you wont be able to make it go against that direction without tying it off with a long rope or cable.

All this is best case scenario...:goingcrazy:

I hadn't thought about wedges, that's a good idea, Oh Ancient One. :D

It's a pretty straight tree with about 15' to the first fork. Board foot in a tree is counted to where the main trunk narrows to 10" diameter, so I figure I can get 3, 8' logs out of it.

It's the one behind the trampoline. I would be moving the trampoline and dropping it towards the camera and to the left.

Smaller cutting board about 95% done. Just put one coat of bowl finish on.

That shed is super roached. It has a hole in the roof, the floor is hooved up and it's full of groundhog crap. If I drop the tree on it, I won't be upset.
