How big of a ride did the dealer take my wife on.

This is the life struggle. I have a full time 9-5 plus my wife own a couple of rental properties so I will gladly pay for someone to make my life easier. But I find myself almost hiring nothing out in the landlord business. Last job I hired out was a large job where my and my 7 neighbors got new water mains (they were in an easement so we owned them). It was 50K between us and the amount of babysitting was huge. In the end I feel like I paid money to have twice the headache.

I felt she should have called before okaying the extra stuff. I was mostly made at dealer - this is where her and I disagreed.

It's really your fault for sending her in to a den of thieves not prepared to turn down any extra items. These people are crafty sales people, like a predator they spot the weaker ones.

I personally wouldn't normally pay for an oil change under normal conditions that's a do it yourself. For simple filters like those the answer is always no, not going to pay labor for something like that I can do in 10 minutes

Just take your truck to your favorite local auto repair shop that you trust. Dealer is only for warranty work IMHO.

Well I guess she trusted the dealer, like most ppl do. Even my dads neighbour, who is a very intelligent man, says Toyota dealer is the best place to take your vehicle for repairs.

I was surprised it worked as I've never given a Google review good or bad. This particular dealer lost my business as I went in to buy a $15 part(listed on their website) and they tried to charge me $25. Had I not had the website pulled up on my phone, I'm sure they wouldn't have taken my "word" for it......and no telling how many people don't check.

Look I'm all for diy at home and change my oil myself, but you aren't taking into account disposing of your oil. Its become a bit of a pain (at least where I live) Many places don't accept oil anymore and those that still do, a lot of times they tell you the tank is full. Still can be done of course, but not so easy peasy as you are projecting.

When I asked places that I have taken used oil to for years why they are changing their policy, reply was Covid. Of course

Check with your local trash pick-up services. My old oil gets picked up at the end of my driveway by the recycle truck.

In my neck of the woods, you can take used oil to pretty much any dealer. Get a big jug and dispose of it every couple years or so. Easy peasy, for me anyway.

Thats the same as when my wife took our prius in for the first oil change after toyota care was done. What was suppose to be a simple oil change turned into a nearly $300 bill with all the extra stuff like an air filter, cabin filter, wipers, and some other bs. I've been taking it to a toyota certified napa garage, but even they have close their doors. Went to a mobil oil change shop in another city where it was serviced, so far so good, but had to listen to them trying to sell me a bunch extra bs to.

Well if there’s one thing I’ve learned from TW, it’s that I’m never going back to the Toyota dealership for work once my 2 years of free work are gone.

Walmart, Autozone, and OReillys take it here. I thought there was a law that they had to take it if they sell new oil.

Where I am in Pennsylvania I have a few options.
Wal-Mart auto center accepts used oil
Auto zone and advanced auto parts store in my area also do. Sometimes they are full but there are several locations I can try to get it taken.

Even the mechanic I used to go to who retired would take especially in winter because they heated their shop with a waste oil furnace so it was free fuel for him.

You just have to ask or check with your local township or county, they usually keep a list of places to take various kinds of waste.
