I'm not sure why the senior tech would need to look at it, have you talked with the service manager or the service writer, the people involved right now should be the general and service managers.

a what if. the tech was tightening the canister cap by hand and before he could reach for his socket wrench he was interrupted by someone diverting his attention away from what he was doing, maybe for a few minutes, and then he just buttoned up the skid plate, a stretch i know.
waiting for season 2 of this thread.

Yes, the service manger is directly involved. He’s who I dealt with upon my return to the dealer. He clearly understood what happened and is the one who provided me with the loaner. What I did not add in my original post is that I had a 3 hour wait for the tow truck. By that time I was almost running late picking my child up from school so I didn’t have a lot of time for jibber jabber. Service manager got a couple of ways I could be contacted (cell and email) and said they’d be in touch.

    Like, so many.
Absolutely agree with this. I’d be on the phone daily.

That does not excuse a lack of communication from the dealership.

Your shocked that a car dealership doesn’t actually care about people?

I can’t believe you haven’t at least floated a trial ballon and get a simple status. You do have their rental so that’s a positive but a query after over a week is reasonable

That’s my goal to be reasonable throughout this process. Since a week has elapsed I am reaching out to get a status check.

If nothing else, you are patient. Considering the possible severity of the problem I think it exceptionally poor service on the part of the dealership that they have not contacted you yet. It does not take much to put a call into you to tell you that they are continuing to work on a solution to the situation and that while they do not have an answer yet, they wanted to reach out and let you know they were working on your behalf. If you give no response you let the customer imagine all kinds of possible outcomes, most of which are not going to be positive. Dealerships and people make mistakes, no one expects perfection, but how you behave after you have made a mistake is often more important that the fact that you made the mistake. You cannot change the past so they should be working towards making the customers experience moving forward as positive as possible. Not contacting you within a week is not the way to handle the situation.

Lots of people would be extremely heated from this ordeal; again, you're handling it more professionally and respectfully than 99% of others would. A few takeaways; they have your vehicle. You have theirs. Both parties are aware of the urgency. I would expect that they want that vehicle back, but they also know that a few thousand miles on the loaner isn't going to affect their ability to sell it. It was used before they loaned it, and it'll be used when they get it back, so some added miles can be accounted for in some sort or market adjustment or add-on when they sell it later. You calling them to push the issue won't make anything move any faster, but its important for you to have a clear understanding of what this process should look like, and what you should expect moving forward. Given that its been a week, there's nothing wrong with reaching out to ask for an update. Hope they have a real update for you, and not just a "we're waiting for ___" type of response.

I agree being reasonable, but at the same time you gotta be stern not to let this drag on.

It won't hurt to pop in and talk to the manager and get a status update.

Contact made. Initial inspection, whatever that involved, did not find any “significant “ damage. Inspection report once uploaded will be emailed to me spelling out methods and findings. I intend on going over that with a fine tooth comb. Also made initial contact with sales guy who was familiar with the situation to start actively working on a trade if that’s the route I ultimately go. Thoughts?

I think a trade-in discussion needs to include the general manager. Many of us assume it was the dealerships fault so a seamless and equitable transfer should be expected as if you were having this discussion prior to the event.

They should not be profiting from this transaction.

They will screw you on trade in. Sell outright to another dealer offering highest price beore it hits Carfax. I do not think I would give up the loaner until you are satisfied.
