No point, that stock section is not a point of restriction.

If you’re concerned about the OE tube causing turbulence, you shouldn’t be.
I’d be more concerned about a Clean air filter.

If it’s looks you want, than go for it.
If it’s net power gains you are looking for, I don’t think you’ll see any.

Kinda. I'm using an FJ cruiser airbox with an OEM filter and custom piping.

Thank you for the input everyone. I think I'm looking for a little noise improvement. What does the FJ cruiser set up with custom piping look like?

    Love them!

Definitely better throttle response, I noticed a slight improvement in MPG coupled with the snorkel, the FJ flows much better with next to zero restriction however it's more involved than most people are willing to fuss with.

You can kinda force it in position but but it's hard up against the windshield washer tank so I relocated the tank forward on a new bracket and had to shorten the tank and relocate the power steering reservoir for comfortable access.

I had to make a custom plug with brass pipe nipples for where the MAF would be for the FJ and use that for my fuel pressure regulator line, then using a 5-3" cocktail shaker tube into a 3" Blackstone Toyota MAF tube into the 2.6" throttle body.

The increase in air volume added turbulence so I had to get a 1" thick honey comb laminar airflow straightener to get the MAF readings to be consistent and steady.

I also had to open up the fender hole for the intake bell a little bit with a die grinder and come up with a solution for the Negative crank case vent tube.

Lots of trial and error but had it set for about 3 years now and it sounds and feels great with the ease comfort reliability and availability of an off the shelf filter.

There's other little secret sauce mods I've done but hands down would do it again but it is pretty involved.

The 3rd gen Tacoma airbox looks like it would bolt in with half the work needed as it's a little smaller than the FJ box but it also doesn't have the cool things the FJ box does like the boat drain or cyclonic separator in it.

I cobbled together this setup for my truck using the scoop from an AFE airbox, some silicone couplers, and a piece of 3.5" aluminum piping.

Does it help? I dunno, it seems to help fuel mileage a tiny bit. Maybe.

I don't use clamps on the aluminum tube so I can remove it quickly if I'm going offroad and think I'll see big puddles.
