Truck Camping Photo Thread

I'd make the trip back just to ensure no one else has an unexpected "wack-a-mole". Sadly that spots about 8hours from Austin, Tx.

 

Is that a state-run spot or just a pull off? I live in AR but too far away to go cut it. If it's state-run, I can contact the folks that run it.

Hard to tell from the picture, but Lake Superior is in the background. Can hear the water fall that is off to the other side.

 

Is that a roof mounted shower room? How do you like it and is it worth the price? I currently use a cheap pop up shower room from Amazon

 

Love that spot, going to be there weekend after next! I think that is probably the best site there.

 

I have been using a two-room mega shower tent when I went camping in my long-bed Chevy 1/2-ton, but now I'm in a Taco I had to cut things down due to space limitations. I downsized the shower tent to a cheap pop-up shower "tent". One of these cargo rack-mounted shower enclosures is in my future. There are several out there going up to over $500, but the one I think I'm going to get is on Amazon:

Tuff Stuff Shower Tent : Sports & Outdoors (amazon.com) The only thing it does not have that I want is a tight roof that will seal off against the walls and will keep the heat AND STEAM in. That can be easily made by an upholstery shop. My current cheap shower enclosure has a very tight roof seal and does not squander the steam: I sit in there with a Bloody Mary and soak out the day's aches and pains. A hot camp shower is a luxury, but one with steam bath capability is an added bonus after a long day of being abused out in the boat by two foot waves. I fall into the hammock after steaming for 30-45 minutes and sleep like a baby, much better than I would without the steam.

It is all in using a shower pan to catch the hot water so you can recirculate it, for as long as you want. As you recirculate the hot water it gets ever hotter, too hot actually, but the steam gets ever thicker! Direct the too hot shower stream away from you and enjoy the steam it puts off.

 

#6 is pretty decent too. Couple others in both the upper and lower campground with slightly less obstructed views, #5 seems to be the most private of them though.

Its so hard to tell what the site is like from the reservation website, they really need better pictures. Every time I go to a new park I haven’t been to, I always make a habit of writing down the good spots for a future visit.

 

Cool I seen a Pic of your rig floating around.. Hope you don't mind but I show my buddy's my plans by showing them your rig... I want to to do the same thing as far as ad the slider out in the back goes.... Have any tips or info for me when I attempt to build my own?

Sounds like a good plan. I just need something to rinse off the family real quick and also a private space for my ladies to go to the bathroom when we're dispersed camping with a group

It’s cool to see that the pairing of the DB cover with Front Runner system I started in 2018 is now being enjoyed by other Tacoma drivers (as well as on several other kinds of trucks). You may enjoy that even more after lifting the truck and positioning the tent to open up with the ladder behind the tailgate.

 

Thanks ... I'll try that too. It was actually your pictures that encouraged me to buy the Front Runner rack, along with positioning my Ayer at the back so that I can open the DB's front cover.

 

Ain’t that so useful set up that way? Comes in handy for getting stuff out the front section of the bed without having to go spelunking.

You’ll likely need to get the tent risers to do the opening of the rtt out the back (for future reference).

I might end up changing the way I camp in the near future. This stuff is getting a little time consuming when setting up and packing it back up.

Otherwise, it's pretty comfortable.
