Looking to get 3-4” of lift for under 2k. No off-roading, just a smooth ride that will comfortably fit 33s, but wouldn’t mind if there was an option to where I could fit 35s. TIA

EDIT: I did not notice OP has a pre-runner, so this is wrong

beyond 3" is not possible without a drop bracket lift and custom knuckles.

if you are willing to trim the fenders then you can fit 35s on 2.5" of lift

Smooth ride and lift dont usually go hand in hand.

Pre runners can do 4" with spindle lifts and little issue. It's one of the biggest perks lol.

Does the higher ground clearance somehow help turn around and go home at the beginning of a trail after doing a rear wheel burnout?

As some have mentioned you can get spindles if you really want 4” of lift. Just remember the spindles usually add approx 3/4” of track width to each side so this needs to be taken into account if changing wheel offset too.

You got any recommendations if I’m gonna do a 3/3.5” lift?

Sorry, let me rephrase that. I’m new to this whole thing and just want at least 3” of lift to fit 33s well. I have about 2k for the budget. I would like nice shocks and maybe coilovers, but you tell me what you would get if you had that budget and wanted to achieve the same goal I guess.

    33 is not a special tire size…

people fit it with max 2-3” pretty regularly

$2000 budget is a little tight, Bilstein 5100's OME 887 coils, a nice rear leaf pack replacement like Deavers or OME if you're going cheaper, carrier bearing drop, and you'll need some type of upper control arms and wheels with 0 to -25 offset to clear 285/70/17+

As well as a cab mount chop.

All of this info and more available in multiple threads.

That might get you into 6112/5120 range Bilstein shocks, which would certainly be an upgrade but honestly if I had to choose between that and the other thing I would mention I would go with the second which is Archive Garage Hammer Hangers and Cross Tube.

The second one isn't really part of the lift per se but it gives a huge improvement in ride quality and stability overall.

Say I got those two things, would I need to upgrade my leaf pack or get shocks in the rear? And then would I just do those 6112 shocks up front, or the 5100s with OME coils like you mentioned earlier?

The hammer hangers is a factory rear shackle hanger replacement, you have to drill the rivets out of your factory hangers at both those on, but I can tell you I sincerely wish I had done that years ago instead of just this last early spring.

You can run those Hammer hangers with everything stock or they'll work with aftermarket suspension components as well.

That link there is the shocks that I would go with though not necessarily from that dealer, I recommend you do your own research on finding the best price that's mainly there just to give you part numbers and an idea of what you need looking at as an upgrade over the 5100s and ome springs.

One of the big kickers is the upper control arms which you will need if you want to run a 285 wide 33 inch tire, the cheapest ones I've seen are around for 500 bucks decent ones are usually in the 6-700 range and you can even go to the extreme ones which are 1k to 4k.

For the link about the shocks, it says it’s recommended for 4WD. Will I be good if mine is RWD?

So long as your truck is 6 lug it's all the same, even stuff for 3rd gen will fit your second gen.

Technically speaking, I'm running FJ cruiser upper control arms on my truck.

Okay so what you recommend would be:
    1. That bilstein shock package you sent earlier
    2. The hammer hanger and cross tube
    3. Upgraded Upper control arms
And nothing else in the rear other than the hanger, tube, and shock. Is that correct?
