Car manufacturers always de tune engines for pick ups and full size vans, all for longevity.

I think thats because so many of these trucks don't all run the same. I can't complain the factory tune is very good in mine where it wasn't in a year older trd tacoma my buddy had.

Yep car engine, they always had car engines from way back in the 20R days, it was shared across platforms, hard to believe they didn’t toss in 6 liter diesel that pulls 1000 ft lbs of torque I know…what was Toyota thinking!?

4.0L engine in my 2007 ranger was used in windstar, mustang, and exploder.

This “car engine” argument is so dumb IMO. Tacoma is not a heavy duty truck, it’s meant to do a little bit of everything. For daily driving this 3.5 is great, especially on highways.

I did tow about 4500k and the engine did not care. Was in 6th on highway cruising at around 2k RPMs. I wouldn’t tow more though, not because of “lack of torque”, but because starting on steep hills is not fun, unless in 2WD low of course.

Trying to explain the difference between horsepower and torque is pointless on here, most on here don’t know the difference. One pulls, one goes fast, there is no substitute.

Yep, it is light duty truck…that doesn’t do anything well. Great little run around vehicle. If people are complaining about power or speed, they probably bought the wrong vehicle. It does great at DDing and yanking around my dirt bike trailer for me. And that is what I bought it for. Sure I could use a bigger truck on my longer trips, life is about compromise…at least according to my bank account it is. :p

I sure do like this engine a hell of a lot better than my past Toyota trucks, it will actually get out its own way that is for sure…and getting halfway decent fuel economy. Averaging 22.5 currently.

What if I told you that the sienna has more payload that any taco ever made. So minivan engine > truck engine.:D

Those were the advertised specs. Where are you pulling your wild-ass claims from?

Exactly, so 3.5 is a great application for an everyday light duty pick up. So is 4.0 and 3.4.

There is absolutely no question that 3rd gen is the quickest taco. I’ve proven that myself many times.

I know you're just trolling but at least reasonably back up your claims. That videos not even close to a 1/4 mile run. It's pretty easy to see the 3rd gen is faster in the 1/4 mile. It's trapping 5 mph more.
