Especially on the highways, I pass second gens like they are standing still. That’s when some of them are being dicks and not letting me pass them, I’ll never understand that.

3.5 is awesome at higher rpms, I absolutely love it.

The car engine argument is ridiculous because short of *some* engine options in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks trucks and commercial vehicles ALL truck engines are shared with cars.

LS is in the Corvette and Camaro, guess it's not a real truck engine either. 3.5 Ecoboost is in literally everything they can fit it in, same with the Hemi, same with the V6s in the Colorado and Wrangler.

Also like the 1GR did have a slightly better torque curve for a truck, but really, really slightly. It's not like it was some stump pulling torque monster. I've driven a buddy's FJ a number of times and that powertrain ain't something special. Pretty sure anyone who thinks it's gutless is the same sort of person who's afraid of actually using the powerband.

Actually that buddy and I drag raced on the Alvord once(both lifted on 33s, his auto and mine manual). We got off the line equally fast but I was a car length ahead by 30 and he was a speck by the time I hit 90.

Yup. All within .1 or .2 of each other in the 1/4 mile. Not any faster.

That’s because you have an off-road;)

Trd sport is a whole different ballgame though… Just installed some recaro seats to keep me in place, the G forces are no joke.

    I know, it’s quite entertaining.

I think the problem is, that a lot of 2nd genners just go by what they read on here. I really don’t understand where all this hate is coming from haha.

Its the same way with many different vehicles. I was behind a bunch of cars on the interstate last saturday morning when a new suburu crosstrek comes flying by the slows up and tucks in right in front of me. This clown starts slowing down to nearly 60 mph. Now i'm crawling over his rear bumper. I tell myself screw this idiot and pass him, and the bunch of cars in front. A couple minutes later this clown does the same again passing me, and slowing down right in front of me. Ok time to have some fun. I blow by him, this time watching my rear view mirror closely. Just as he's trying to pass again i hop out in his lane giving him a good brake job. Guess what...no more problem. I never saw this idiot again.

The same model truck, 27 years later, still has the same or worse power to weight. If that makes you happy then go on with ya bad self. I wasn't.

I wasn’t the one that said 3rd gen is the slowest in the 1/4;)

3rd gen is heavier and gets better MPGs than 2nd, so there is that. How is it same or worse power to weight? 4.0 has 236 hp and 266 torque, 3.5 has 278 hp and 265 tq, am I missing something? I know you hate 3rd gens, but cmon man.

Are you one of those guys that revs his engine and tries to race other under powered vehicles? How often do you really get into a situation where you race another Tacoma on the highway lol. Its easy to pass someone like they are standing still if they aren't trying to race you haha.

    Sounds familiar…

Man, don’t even get me started on horrible drivers we have here, haha! Vancouver has to have one of the worst drivers in the world.

Being someone that drives both a 2nd gen and 3rd gen the 4.0 is MUCH punchier and torquey feeling down low. No one wants to have to rev the hell out of a truck to try and get it to move.
