    4x4 Swap Icon Dynamics Suspension 2.5in front/1.5in back 285/70/17 BFG K02 Tires
    Hey everyone,

Name’s Jerry, live in AZ. Just finished up converting my 2001 Tacoma TRD Prerunner to 4x4!
I got the truck for free from my FIL almost a year ago and have fell in love with it. I was beyond impressed with the truck’s capabilities even with just 2WD + e-locker and when I found out I could easily swap in the 4wd system I knew I had to do it!

I’m looking forward to investing more time and effort into the truck to give it my special touch.

Upgrades so far went like this:
Street tires -> Mud Tires -> AT tires -> 4wd swap

Next Upgrade?? bumper + winch or suspension or ?? Haven’t decided as my FIL had replaced the front suspension before giving it to me and I want to wear it out some more before upgrades so probably bumper + winch or I’m open to ideas.

Anyways, excited to browse the forums!

Welcome! Nice truck! A conversation to 4X4? That’s awesome. Any major issues?

Thanks, I’ve had the 4x4 swap for 3 days and haven’t had any issues. Driven over 500 miles since then. The biggest issue I had during the conversion was with pressing out/in the wheel hubs/bearings. We tried doing them ourselves as we had a press but not all the attachments and we just struggled really hard, broke two bearings and ended up paying a shop $100 to do it and will pay again if I ever have to do them again!!! Other than that incredibly easily, bolt on conversion. I wrote down all the parts and steps to do it in a google doc so I might post it, even though I know there’s tons of threads already.

This morning I hit a small trail through a wash that Id driven through before in 2WD + e-locker and it felt much more comfortable in 4x4 this time around. I’m planing to redo all the trails near my house and hit the parts I wasn’t able to before to continue testing it. I’ll update if anything happens.
