Carplay? 2019 TRD

Hey all, I have a 2019 TRD off road. It came with all the upgrades shit like jbl speakers and leather seats but it doesn’t have car play and I know I’ve seen it in other 2019’s. Is there some sort of upgrade I can do or would I have to install new parts etc.?

As far as I know, it didn’t come on the ‘19 tacomas.

I just did the head unit swap to a 2021 version in my 2019. I looked into the module that will attach to the stock 2019 and give you CarPlay (BeatSonic I believe). I didn’t personally like what I saw. It’s expensive for the unit, the earlier screen resolution and colors displayed aren’t very nice looking, to me anyway, and I read reports of glitchy performance.

I searched eBay and TacomaWorld classifieds multiple times a day for a few weeks looking for a modern head unit. I found one on eBay (part number 86140-04230, non-navigation from a 2021) for an amazing price. Bought it and a harness from auto harness house. Install took less than 30 minutes and I kept the Kicker Key amp I had in previously with the old unit. Really satisfied and since the screen looks better in the new head unit I get a better experience and a clearer backup camera view to boot.
