Story Time With Gritto

This one's a rerun oldie but goodie.

One beautiful Autumn day I went Grouse hunting.
It was the early season and unseasonably warm.
After several hours of busting brush (with no success), I sat down under a huge Tulip Polar tree to have a smoke.
With all the foliage still on the trees, I hadn't noticed that the Poplar tree was dead.
I fell asleep, of course.

I woke up to what seemed like an artillery bombardment, but with 2x4s.
As I scrambled to get out of the lethal zone, I heard the unmistakable sound of a Pileated Woodpecker calling.
Followed by another...and another...and another.
A whole family of them, hammering on my tree and calling to each other.
(Evidently, they hadn't split up yet.)

At the time, my first thought was that they were laughing at me.
Maybe they were... I started laughing too.
