Have my Access Cab SR on order, and was getting quotes for a XL canopy.

    IMG_8019.jpg

This is for a bare bones 4 cylinder 4x4 work truck.

I haven't bought a canopy in over a decade and it was also a Leer 100 XL for a GMC.

    Is there anything you'd add???

Once I get a VIN I'll be able to place the order, they say lead time is 8-12 weeks.

I’d option it out. Look into sportsman vented windoors both sides, fold down front window, and roof rail tracks. I actually did the Yakima aero bars on mine when I ordered it as well since they were much cheaper than I could buy them, but now have Martin off-road racks on cab and cap. I definitely get a windoor on one side but I have them on both. Shop around, I saved $1000 driving a few hours each way. I was OTD for $2600 fully optioned instead of $3500 that I was quoted locally. Hard to say if those deals are still around but call a lot of different places and check reviews for install (also important to have good installers).

I’ll probably drive to Sacramento this weekend. The shop is expensive, but they have like a 4.9 rating on Google and yelp.

Good call on the options, installing that shit later is expensive.

Prices have gone up since I got mine a year and a half ago!

The one option that you really need is the drop-down front window. Otherwise, cleaning the gap between the cab and the shell is difficult.

Other options such as the Windoors and the roof rails depend on your expected uses. (If you're going to get Windoors, get the 100XR model.)

Give yourself a few days after you pick up your truck, to get the topper. That will give you time to prep the truck. You need to pull the bed caps and seal underneath. (The canopy installation shops won't do this.) Also, Toyota sells the special rubber plugs for the front corners of the bed. (Normally, these come standard with factory tonneau covers.) They run $30 each, but are well worth it, since those front corners are the major source of leaks.

It also might be a good idea to prewire the truck for the canopy. (I've had bad luck with canopy dealers doing this.)

I had a 2012 dclb Tacoma bought a new but not color matched Leer cap for it for $800 back then. Damn these things got expensive.

It’s hard to say what you should add, a truck cap is a very personal item. I would just say if you’re going to spend that much, might as well get everything you want.

That’s how I did it. Don’t wanna spend $3K and still have that buyer’s remorse by not adding something you could use.

Never too late to add - if you're planning on keeping the truck long-term, pull the plastic bed rail caps and have the surfaces covered by the caps line-x'd. A few years back when I pulled my cap for my frame replacement, I found that the bed rail caps had worn through the paint and into the steel from the weight and slight movement of the topper, and the bed rails were starting to rust a bit. I had that rust repaired, then had the rails line-x'd before replacing the caps and the topper. Zero issues over 100k km later.

I recommend at least getting the tracks for a roof rack installed even if you don't purchase the bars it's a pita and costs more to get them installed afterwords if you need them down the road.

Windoors are a must, especially if your working out of it. You never have to climb inside from the back. The flip down front window I wouldn’t bother with as I used it once on the last canopy in the 11 years I had it. The rails on top are good if you carry ladders/material.

My biggest concern about a rack is the height of the vehicle with the rails installed, I want to fit inside parking garages in the city.

The rails add no more than 3/4” to the height. Which is still lower than the shark fin. The cross bars are removable

Good to know. I still haven’t decided if I wanna carry bikes on the cap or from a hitch mounted flip down carrier.

Another plug for the windoors, they’re awesome. I wish I would have gotten the gold down front window in order better clean between the two windows

Hard top camper...many more to add+
F76DDD0F-B940-4B8D-92DB-70177BBB7FE2.jpg The most important -“ A fold down rear window in the front “ !!! To be able to clean the outside windows of the camper and Tacoma. Worth the extra cost!

    Or you will regret this!

it is raining so hard now, I want to show you a picture of how it folds down and easy to remove from the camper top. Maybe some one can?
I like the higher top, more headroom. Looks better too.

Same here. I put windoors on my snugtop and dont regret it. Getting stuff in and out the truck without having to climb the in bed is a plus

Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Damn inflation has hit Leer products too I see.

I had a basic 100R with sliding front window installed in late 2018 for ~$1950.

Now that I've had it I don't think I'd own a truck without a shell / topper (unless maybe I also owned a Sprinter or Transit.)
