every body here owns a toyota and we are all telling you the same thing, maybe your expectation is high. i think your marketing stratagy should be to go after a newbee, someone who likes the toy reputation but has not owned one yet. just wondering why are you getting ride of it. sorry , you did mention a newer tacoma. one more thing, i bet if you would have mentioned something like"im upgrading to a 4x4" the crowd wouldnt have been so harsh. harsh but truthful

Mods hurt the value in most cases. When you are modding a vehicle you are making it your own. Would you buy a phone from someone that customized it there way and keep it that way? Chances are probably not. You would rather have factory settings on that phone and make it yours. This sticks to the vehicle industry as well. I used to be a car sales man and we would sell the after market parts that we could on a vehicle to people that worked at the shop. We want to sell cars that are as stock as possible because they attract the most attention. Yeah you get your few that are customized but if they are heavily customize we use them as "bait" looks good enough to bring the customer in and when they turn it down we show them something that is a bit less or not even modified. What you have done to the vehicle is to make it yours. You said you think it looks good. That's great. The real question is how many people have your taste? I have a heavily modded truck and I would be lucky to get 14 - 15k for it the way it sits today. Now for the biggest issue with this truck. MILES!......... no matter how you look at it and even if you have records of everything thing that has been done down to the very first time you loosened a nut. It's still A CRAP TON of miles. Timing chain will need to be replaced soon which is not cheap. 300k and those chains need to be inspected and more than likely replaced. That is not cheap. MILES! on the body is a ton of miles and no one is gonna believe you haven't repainted that thing or replaced things on it. 220k highway miles should show a lot of wear on that paint by now. MILES scare people away. If I saw a 12 year old (Yes 12 years old now)(A 2000 model was made in 1999) 220k mile car for sale at your praying price of 6500 I would expect a rebuilt drivetrain. If it doesn't then I would expect you to be on something. You can't expect 220k miles on a vehicle and expect it to be prestine. No matter how well it was maintained. Highway miles take a tole on the body, suspension, mounts, etc. City miles take a tole on the drivetrain. It's that simple. Either way this truck in my eyes would be worth maybe $4,500 with a good sales talk.

Thanks for the thought-out post.. many great points..

I would probably still put it for sale at $6500.. That said, i would definately not EXPECT that.. but i dont think i would budge at taking less than $5500-$5300.. to me, its not worth even getting rid of, ya kno?

Yup, that's right. In most cases as you said, mods actually diminish the resale value of a vehicle and alot of times people will expect that because of the mods that the price of the vehicle should be less than what it would be if it was stock. It's just the way it is.

That's why selling a modded vehicle on a forum specific to that vehicle would be the much better option to getting the most money you can out of (versus if you decided not to return the vehicle to stock form and sell it like on AutoTrader) as that is the place you will find the people who will most likely understand and appreciate what was done to it, assuming they were tasteful, practical $$$ mods to improve the nature of it. Thus, they will (hopefully) see it as an opportunity of something that's already been for them in a lot of respects so they won't have to put as much money in it for mods because it has them already (For example for a Tacoma it would most likely be stuff like ; suspension lift, bigger tires etc etc etc).
