Not sure about Toyota, but when I went through hell with GM about my faulty head on my Colorado I learned that warranty work per hour was about $30 less than a paying customer plus no markup on parts..so not really a huge moneymaker per se

The ECM on Toyotas does NOT record / monitor oil pressure. That would be a real good indicator of Damage if you could actually tell how long the engine ran at what psi.
If you could monitor oil pressure, lets say with a "scan gauge" then you would be able to see oil pressure drop as the oil began to wear out and become thinner.
You can do this by using and analog gauge but it would be better to have this information in a digital format.

Basically the warning lights on the dash are activated by the ECM that is related to the warning light. The light turns on last. So given a worst case situation like the one highlighted in this thread. If you remember the OP said he heard engine noise then the warning lights came on.
By the time the warning light came on in this case the engine damage had started only to be stopped when the OP turned off the engine.

That usually is the way many warranties work. Some with pay the going rate if chosen to be an exclusive dealer of that area, while others will get the rate usually lower that a company tells them, or they can go pound sand.

This is not a warranty issue for op. The dealership fucked up the first oil change on the truck. Toyota is not on the hook, other than to possibly mediate. The tech preforming the oil change didn't pay attention to either a cut gasket or put it in the wrong location and it was cut a the threads. " The story wrote" by the master tech seems to limit the damage to the dealership. When I had a Hyundai in a dealership for poor shifting it had a transmission that wasn't filled from the factory just like some of our trucks. No leaks the blame game was on, I had kept the last service they checked off on a month earlier that the transmission was full and clean on a sealed transmission. The conversion went from you signed off it was full and blame a lazy tech that didn't do a proper PDI. or inspection the last time. Story that up.

Theres a dealership in my area that farms out warranty work to my buddies shop when they have too much work backed up. I could recall my buddy saying if one of their techs screwup, and the customer decides to see another dealer, the first dealer that did the screwup job gets back charged for the warranty work.

This issue is related to Michigan’s no-fault insurance. But you can bet the owner of the car can and will sue the dealership now even though the employee’s attorney can’t.

And more specifically, this exact law suit could be levied in any state. Even a southern state.

Yup, the first dealer who performed the leakdown test and got it certified for replacement (after first telling me they never heard of the secret warranty) said they'd order the parts. I call a few weeks later and hear they aren't going to do it because "I don't care what that document says I don't think it's the head. You want it done, cash up front in full"

Taxes *were lower. Thanks to the mass onslaught of people trying to buy a house in Texas, my taxes are now much higher (even with homestead exemption), Dallas traffic went from it's own defined circle of hell to something newer, scarier, and beyond definition, and the lines for Whataburger taquitos are now almost as long as the line for Starbucks.

So really, thanks future Texans. I appreciate it.

Yup, county assessed me a 41% tax increase due to appraisal. Fighting it but the verdict isn’t in yet.

Are you homesteaded? That helps some. Also, if you're in the Tarrant appraisal district, check out Chandler Crouch. Dude seems to be able to negotiate a better settlement than I can, and he does it for free.
