It depends on how and what you ride. If you ride groomed trails in the winter and use the Fatty for trail riding then I would say go with 27.5. I personally run 26ers because I can get a wider tire for float in the snow. I don't use my Fatty for anything but snow rides (8-10x a year) and do not have groomed trails anywhere so when I air down to 3-4 psi I can bust trail for our group in fresh snow, 5-8".

I run 5"studded Johnny 5's on 80mm rims and they stay on the bike year round. When the snow gets packed down from trail usage or get icy they are a little sluggish because of the amount of rubber I'm pushing.

Thanks, that’s good info. Around here, they do groom the trails and I’ll also use it for mud season on the moderate trails and keep the full squish bike home.

Hit Santiago in Orange County yesterday after work. Since March last year I’ve been riding at least every other weekend. This thread has been a huge help to me. Thanks guys!

Congrats! Life changing experience. I hit the trails every weekend with my son (14 yo) and it’s something I look forward to all week. Before you know it you may be doing the same thing.

BTW - you might want to get a little more sleep now.

Needs drive line adjustment, will swap my prison pedals onto it, I have a better bottle cage too, and we're good to go! Dude got I during Rona, put about 100 miles onto it. Giant contend 3. I had a defy 5 a while back I actually sold during Rona I think. I stopped road biking with the intent of doing more with dog. Turns out dog only needs a lot less than I can do, although maybe it's because she's grown a bit since then.

Either way. Great guy on here handed me an old school trek 1220. For what it was it was an awesome bike in it's day and even still today it's a contender. Just wanted to go a bit more modern and the parts to do it for the 1220 cost less than buying this and selling the trek off.

So, bought this. Selling the trek, and getting back to biking. Been a while so it'll be nice to get out. Took it for a quick spin around the neighborhood after I got it home (I rode it before buying it too), just needs some tweaks and adjustments but otherwise ready to rip.

Hello gents, has anyone here done the bikethewest's OATBRAN tour ride from US50 CA/NV border across nv to the UT/NV border?

Does anyone here compete in races, time trails, and regular challenges on road bikes? I need to pick your brain please!!!!!!

Swapped out to some PNW grips on my chameleon. Shocking how much of a positive change I noticed. They’re skinnier than the RF the previous owner had installed. Made it feel like I could finally get my hands out to the ends of the bar which I much prefer.

Not so much matchy matchy with the bike, but they match my truck.

Every time I come in this thread and start reading the comments I feel like a real geezer.

Maybe I needed to feel younger? Anyhow I went out and bought a nice, very lightly used, 2014 Mongoose Malus from Craig’s list. The guy hurt himself at work and he could never ride his brand-new bike.

He said it’s been sitting in this garage the whole time while he had back surgery. It still has the tits on the tires!

So this is the adult version of a BMX bike? BMX came along after I bought a motorcycle and a car and had given up bicycling.

The mongoose came with it an unopened 2014 owners manual and nothing else. I don’t know if this can be decoded to tell me anything important.

It’s a fun ride; although when you start out you have that riding on flat tires feeling, once you get going it’s bouncy and fun.

Some of you are saying to yourselves, “if this guy can afford a Tacoma why is he buying a cheap bicycle.”

Well I went into the town’s fanciest bicycle shop with $$$$ in my pocket and watched a guy buy the last fat bike in the whole place. Essentially, it was the last brand new fat bike in town.

    :angrygirl:

I am not going to spend a ton of money upgrading the substandard components. That plastic shifter would make a good chew toy for my dog. The brakes look like absolute toys.

I’m gonna cut it up for parts. I’m building a custom bike and I have been trying to buy a fatbike wheel or rim or tire all over town. All that stuff is on back order so I had no choice but to buy a complete bike.

However I now have a spare tire and tube and wheel rim. Considering that I wasn’t able to buy even one, and everything was on back order, it was a smart move.

I am building a geezer comfort bike. Sort of. I can still lift my leg . . . LOL It might look something like this when I get done. This is just a mock up on the shop floor.

I have been riding the refurbished Manhattan Green Unisex bike. This puppy is too small for me but it got me back into bicycling, so yippie!

The Taco got a bit tanner, a bit blacker, and a bit redder with a 29er.

Nice! Finding the right contact point that fits you is such a great feeling. I personally get along great with all the Deity grips, they're all a variation of each other. I used to love the ESI silicones, but there's just something that my hands really like about wrapping around a set of Deitys.
Always wanted to try the PNWs, really dig their concept.

Congrats man! NBD is such a good day :)
My 0.02, get it on a stand and go over it. You would be surprised how many shops and manufacturers leave shit out of spec, out of torque, or even misinstalled. Either way you need to dial in your fit, might as well go over all bolts. Especially the shock, stem, cranks, pedals, seat collar; all of which I have found loose in the past and are safety concerns. Grab a beer, Loctite, a torque wrench, and go over it!
