It was the same way when i bought my tacoma...you had to take a tech package to get 1 item you wanted, but had to accept all the other bs that went with it. I swear manufactures make it so we can't cherry pick just one thing. They need to make a big profit, or take that chance the buyer won't go for it. I haven't used much of this stuff in my truck, but at least i got a couple things i needed.

I too had to get 2500 of add-ons that I really did not need. But right now it’s a sellers market.

Only had to wait 5 weeks for mine, didn’t think it was all that bad. Paid MSRP too.

Dealer here (Idaho) would buy a bunch for rentals, then turn around and sell them as certified used. Little loop hole to get more trucks than what they are allocated.

I agree. The inline 4 turbo in my girl's Bronco scoots and has plenty of power down low. Will it last 200k miles? Dunno but we'll never find out because it'll log about 6k miles a year. It's also much quieter than the Taco's V6 click'n and clack'n at idle. I like my Taco but I'm sure I'd like it more with forced induction.

But back on topic.. the inline 4 turbo isn't even available in a Tacoma and won't be for a long time so I'm not sure how that plays into OPs decision making.

It's actually rumored for the next generation of Tacoma expected in only a couple of years. Since he's pretty much ruled out the used car market, I'm sure his thought process was on the next generation since he's having a hard time finding what he's looking for.

I'm in Alabama truck is in Hickory, NC. Maybe the 4th gen won't be out next year. The majority of parts I have are really for overland and not just model specific parts. I retired to travel and see the sites out west. Relatives in Colorado and Washington state make these trips easier. Price of gas and groceries just makes it more expensive. I appreciate all the feedback and this community and knowledge is the best.

Road trip baby! I once flew one way to Miami from Maine, picked up the car I wanted from a PRIVATE sale, drove it home 1500 miles. I treated it as a fun test drive/adventure. Just figure the airline ticket into the price of the truck. I also used to sell Toyotas back in the late 80's, early 90's. Sold a Toyota Supra Turbo to a guy from New Jersey who could not buy one locally because of steep price mark-ups and low availability. And you have it right, avoid used, buy new. Have fun!
