    Yeah

I’m dropping the pan tonight to look about the possibility of just putting one rod in it.
If that’s possible that’s the route I’m going. I’m also willing to do a more in-depth rebuild as well (machining on the block or crank), what I’m not doing is sourcing another 2GR, if it’s gonna take a whole new engine I’ll be pursuing the swap route.

Sure there are long dirt roads. My point is you can never be further than 25 miles away from a paved road no matter where you are in the lower 48 states.
Here is a snip of the most remote part of Idaho from the link I provided. 20 miles from a paved road.

So in a straight line… guess you could use that argument if we had the helicopter option, but we don’t… have to drive twisty roads.

Don’t think the Nez Perce is the most remote part of Idaho. The Idaho-Nevada-Oregon border ie: Owyhee Wilderness is fairly remote, lowest population density in the lower 48, you can get more than 25 miles from a paved road even in a straight line, measuring at least 40 miles. I go down there a bunch….whole lot of nothing.

That and the Frank Church Wilderness, though you aren’t allowed in there with motorized ground vehicles, only boats and bush planes. Pretty sure you can do a 45+ mile radius of no pavement.

I’ve seen the low oil light blink on extremely briefly one time on a super steep and off camber descent when my front downhill tire came off a rock harder than I really wanted and I damn near rolled it. No stall or brake loss or anything

edit: We’re talking full tripod mode here

What is the threshold for these engines. What degree of angle could we expect to see oiling issues. 30- 45? Just curious.

    Yeah
I’ve had no issues at 35-37. It’s above that the smoking started (before the catch can). I was at 40+ when this happened.

What do you use to determine that? Just guestimation or do you have a good solution for an inclinometer that goes further than the built in one?

Not doubting you, genuinely curious seeing as I've pegged the stock one plenty of times.

What does the built in one go to? Guess I've never really paid attention.

30, which is an annoying number seeing as past 30 is when you really need to know what you're at. Forgetting about wanting to stay away from 40 degrees of pitch to avoid toasting your engine, knowing whether you're at 10 vs 15 vs 20 degrees of roll doesn't really matter, but 30 is where you want to start being pretty cautious, 35 you want to be really cautious and 40 you need to be looking for an out.

Let’s be honest, we’re all commenting here because we should be doing something else but got distracted, I’d be more surprised if a bunch of easily distractible people didn’t get consistently sidetracked!

iPhone angle meter, zero it to whatever your phone mount setup is.

Be cool to see you drill the heads and make a return line to the oil pan if you do decide to only put a rod and bearings in it...

Ah, my phone mount setup is a RAM mount which have some play side to side so I guess it won't work
