    Camper did awesome!

I had some issue with the stove slide I need to tweak.

Now that I’m back I need to replace my lower control arm bushings and my brake rotors are pretty warped.

How was it? we had a trip planned out there a couple weeks ago, but had to bail due to rain the whole weekend.
As many flies as people say?

I also heard about how the flies can be bad. It still might be early for them because we didn’t encounter any. It got a little windy, but not nearly as bad as the last time I was there.

It appears some of the large ruts on Los Burros Road have been filled in, because the drive was much smoother going up than the last time I was up there.

We also didn’t run into any other people which was great. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with Nac-Ferg road being closed so the only way to get there is Los Burros Rd, which takes about 1.5 hours.

Good to hear. that's what I figured when we were originally going to go, that they shouldn't be that bad being earlier in the season.

Was also gonna ask you about the road. It's like 20 miles or something iirc and didn't know exactly how long that translated into time driving. Good to know.
One of the parks people I spoke to about it a while ago said it was going to take like 2+ hours or something. But I assume the was expecting people to be driving subarus and stuff going at a much slower pace.

Did you make any trips back down the ridge while you were there? or just posted up there the whole time? Any good hikes up in that area?

Yea it’s about 20 miles. The first time I did the drive it probably took me about 2 hours, but I was driving quite slow and making stops to take in the scenery. It was after dark on my way up this time so there was much less to see haha.

We only stayed for the one night so we just stayed up there the entire time. We didn’t do any hiking, but while looking at the Gaia app, it looks like the Prewiit Ridge Trail and Prewitt Loop would be good hikes.

Also, campfires are permitted at the moment. But the ranger I spoke to said that would probably be changing very soon.

Probably a good time to remind everyone you need a permit. It's free and takes just a few minutes.

Also, May 1st is about the time fire restrictions start to ratchet up so be sure and check before starting a fire.

Yes good point! I got my permit a few months ago, and I think it was actually you who posted the reminder that made me take care of it.

Right on. That is the downside to staying up there with burros road being the only access in and out. A good trip back and forth if you wanna go down to the beach.

I was told the same that they are allowed right now surprisingly. But yes I don't expect it to last that long at all.

I'm talking with 4x4 In Motion, to see if they have any insight in to when Niagara Rim Trail is going to open.

They may be planning a trail clearing and season opener for NRT. I told them to hit me up as soon as they have details. Would anyone else be interested?

FWIW, it is sounding like Forest Service may recend the Forest Order closing 5N01 through May 31. Roads are clearing, and snow is melting quickly. NRT -MIGHT- be open prior to Memorial Day weekend.

Seems like it's faster. Normally I'm not, legitimately, thinking about Niagara Rim Trail till mid/late June. It could potentially be open by the end of May.

Not good for drought, good for 'froadin tho.
