I bought the m12 brushless and haven’t regretted it. The VCG You Tube guy recommended the M12 over the M18.

 

I don't personally own it but I have heard good things. I currently own the rigid plug in oscillating tool and it's been great for cutting baseboards and around doors. If it ever goes out I may go the Milwaukee route due to it'd be nice to have a battery option as well, due to portability.

 

lol word, wasn’t sure what you weee doing, though maybe cutting out some old flooring….I’ve done similar stuff to what you’re trying to do, saw shoe won’t let you go all the way and need to finish the cut. Multi tool is probably your best option, but not perfect

I have an m18 non fuel that a beat the piss out of, bought the m12 fuel as a replacement before m18 fuel was released. Love the thing, will not buy the 18. I’d recommend one of the wider blades for that cut, will help keep it straight

 

Anyone recommend the M18 chainsaw?
My primary use would be punning over hanging branches along drive ways.

There may be times it seems 8”-10” stuff. But that only be occasionally, like storm clean up just enough to get stuff off the road.

Really don’t need a $600 top handle saw.
It wouldn’t be used enough. And it’s something else to maintain. Like the file system.

 

Are you a lawn and garden maintenance person doing this 20+ days a year? If so I would recommend a Stihl MS 194T or Echo CS271T, or Stihl MS170 for $190!

Here's my $0.02:
I have used my M18 chainsaw about 6 times this year. I just sold my Stihl MS192TC and MS290 reluctantly because I only used them 2 times each in the 5 preceding years. I have modified my M18 to have a smaller 12" chain and bar that better suits my needs *most* of the time but the saw is LONG compared to the top handles and even the professional saws. The M18 does not fit into standard hard cases, and has an odd feel compared to traditional 2stroke saws because of the battery placement and rear handle slope.

If I were to do it again, I would have sold the top handle and bought the M12 Hatchet and kept the MS290.

 

I am in lawn care. But don’t do pruning often.

I do however cut a lot of firewood.
So I maybe setting myself up for disappointment.

I currently runs a Husky 450, 455, 460 and a Stihl 270.

 

I brought my M18 Chainsaw on a camping trip in March. We came upon some downed trees (not Huge, but blocking the road). This saw diced up the blockage so fast and efficiently, everyone in the group was impressed. Its a great saw.

Apologies for the newbie question, but is there a good resource for decision making re: M12 vs m12 fuel vs M18 vs M18 fuel etc? I realize it's going to come down to personal preference, but it's somewhat hard to wrapy.head around what is a good deal and what I should wait for at this stage. Been debating this for a few months to replace some well used but tired dewalt 18v cordless tools that have served me well the last decade. Decided to jump ship and join team red because they seem to have more variety, likely staying DeWalt for my corded power tools (already have a job site table saw, planer, chop saw, router etc) Use will be 75% general construction/home renovation (of the gutting rooms and building from the studs up variety, not just paint and trim), 25% wrenching on cars, bikes etc.

I like my toys and buy one cry once, but does everything HAVE to be fuel?
