I used to buy 0W-20 ILSAC GF-5 Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic Motor Oil 15k miles - 5 Qt in bulk. (images attached)

In order to do an oil change, 6+ qts is needed, so I just would empty a 5 qt jug plus draw the extra 1+ qts from another of the 5 qts jugs. That of course leaves oil left over.

I have only 4 qts left, so I now need to buy more oil for my next oil change, however this oil is no longer available.

The closest replacement seems to be the below. Still 0W-20 but now with the new GF-6A standard.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JTUBTQG/?coliid=I14KUM7R9I6P1X&colid=3OH25GDE1URHQ&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The GF-6A standard states that it is backwards compatible with GF-5.

So, am I good with combining my remaining old Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15k miles 0W-20 GF-5 with the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance 20k miles 0W-20 GF-6A?

You're fine. The engine is not that sensitive to fluid standards.

So sorry to hear about your eminent loss...

Maybe we should start the parting out process...

I doubt there is a problem, but if you aren't going to follow manufacturers recommendations, why do you care? I mean really?

Not trying to be a jerk either. You made a decision, you don't need our affirmation.

Pardon, but how am I not following the manufacturer's recommendations, aside from the obvious DIY / non-OEM oil vs dealership job? The manufacturer specifications designates GF-5, however GF-5 does not appear to be widely available anymore, its 6A now. Additionally I could just go straight GF-6A and throw away the GF-5, but if there are no consequences to mixing 5 and 6A, that would be less wasteful and save money.

I do care about proper maintenance, to enough of an extent that I do what I can myself due to shoddy work and higher costs at the dealership. I welcome any critique of what I do or correction to anything on which I may be mistaken. I aim to improve.

Don't over think it. Next time I do my oil change I've got a quart and a half of shell 0w20 gas truck and a 5 quart of super tech 0w20 that is also now 6A. Guess what I'm going to pour them in together and not loose a second of sleep because of it. All quality oils of the same viscosity are so close that the engine will only know its oil
